Do you need a new battery in your iPhone 5?

Good morning friends,

There’s a lot of news about the iPhone 5 and it’s battery life lately; so much in fact that Apple has recalled an undisclosed amount of iPhones for a FREE BATTERY installation. You can see if your iPhone 5 is eligible here on Apple’s website. I feel like my battery in my iPhone 5 is terrible recently and I find myself charging my phone several times a day. I checked my personal phone, and Apple says that my battery is not one of the affected units; therefore no free battery for me. In fact, after reading Apple’s website it appears that they will just be swapping phones with their customers (presumably why they ask you to disable “Find my iPhone” and tell you to erase all of your data).

I thought about this for a minute…and even though it’s not a Mission Repair Recall, we are going to do Apple customers a favor: We will replace your iPhone 5 Battery for FREE (of you so desire) when you send in your device for a screen repair!

That’s right- this is a Mission Repair exclusive. If you need to have your iPhone 5 screen replaced, just select the “free battery” option when setting up your repair and we will not only repair your screen, but we’ll install a new battery for no additional charge while my technicians have your device in house.

This will help many of you that might be in the same situation as me; your iPhone is over a year old, the battery life is not what it used to be, and you’re not eligible for a free replacement from Apple.

Heck, it might even be a better way to get your battery replaced through Mission Repair; we won’t make you set an appointment to see a “genius” and we won’t “swap” your phone. It’ll come back to you with all of your data, pictures, texts and emails in tact! Just like you left it with us 😉

Take advantage now. This is something new for Mission Repair so we will begin this special today and it will run while supplies last. This is not a “no purchase necessary” special; the free battery replacement can only be selected in conjunction with an iPhone 5 front glass screen repair service (either black or white). Let us know if you have any questions! 866-638-8402.

Top 5 ways to ruin your iPhone.

Hello friends-

Ruin is a strong word, I should say “ruin your day”, because in all of these cases, the iPhone can be fixed! It’s why we are in business.

I thought it was time for us to run some data through our system and come up with the top 5 ways our customers have reported damaging their iPhones. This data is similar for iPods and Android phones. Without much more to say, let’s see what and why things are happening to our customers in real life!

We will start with #5:

5. It just happened.

Unfortunately we hear this a lot. “I set the phone down and the next time I picked it up, the screen was cracked”. Or, “I left my phone in the car overnight, and now it won’t turn on.” These types of issues are a mystery. Spontaneous breakages. I think it’s the aliens that did it. In reality, a lot of issues happen without us ever knowing why; it’s no secret that electronic devices will all eventually fail naturally over time.

4. Animal ate it.

Well, I can’t really say “ate it”, but truthfully there are many times that either the family dog thought the device was a chew toy, but we are also going to include dogs stepping on devices in this one. We hear this a lot: “my dog stepped on my iPad” and the next thing you know is that we’ve had to replace a cracked glass on the device.

3. Pulled by the cord while plugged in.

It’s never a good idea to plug your iPhone in then string the cord across the hallway so that your iPhone is sitting on a table. This is a recipe for disaster, and now that white cable that you treasure so preciously just became a tripwire for the next unsuspecting passerby. This issue causes a lot of cracked screens and charging port problems.

2. Liquid Damaged.

I just heard this on Friday: “I had my iPhone in my back pocket, started to pull down my pants to use the restroom…and ker-plunk my iPhone went into the toilet.” We love these (not really). Truthfully clean toilet water in the iPhone doesn’t scare me that much; but some of my technicians might think otherwise. Spilling a glass of water, jumping into a swimming pool with an iPhone in your pocket, or dropping your iPhone into a glass of beer at a Rolling Stones concert have all been reported.

AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON IS……………..

1. Dropped!

There’s not much more to say about this one. Drops are clearly the number one reason that customers call into Mission Repair for service. Some customers even state “I dropped my iPhone from about 3 feet onto the carpet. I can’t believe that it cracked!”. Believe it. To be honest I dropped my iPhone AGAIN this weekend (I left it in my lap while driving my truck, then just got out and forgot it was there) and it fell onto the concrete driveway. I watched it for a minute, picked it up and it was still in tact. Somehow. I think that I have 9 lives like a cat when it comes to things like this, but I’m on #8.

And there you have it. Straight from the customer’s experience. Let me give you one more “abstract” testimonial from a long-time customer of ours that flies with the Blue Angels Navy Team. Lt. Amy Tomlinson took her trusty MacBook with her on a flight, and slammed the canopy of her F/A-18 Hornet crushing the screen. She called us at Mission Repair and we got her back in working order in no time. I’ve recently talked with Lt. Tomlinson and asked her about that MacBook. She was proud to say the she upgraded herself into a new unit; but the original “smashed then repaired” laptop was still being used by her mother after several years. That’s just awesome!

Have a great week, I’ll be back soon.

Tower, this is Ghost Rider requesting a flyby.

Good morning friends-

I was outside last night finishing up some yard work when I heard the humm of of “something” in the air. It got louder, louder, until this “powered parachute” buzzed right behind my house. I was able to get my camera out to snap a pic:

IMG_0905

It was pretty cool. I’ve often thought about getting into this sport even through it looks a little dangerous. I’ve heard that it’s relatively inexpensive, and easy to store the machine- basically it does just fold up and will load onto a flatbed trailer for storage. Ok, take the danger factor out of it and it does look pretty great!

Well it got my dogs all riled up as well. My “scaredy dog” Layla hustled out to the edge of the fence so she could bark at this guy flying by. She’s such a tough girl 😉

How was your weekend? Anything spectacular happen? Did you take your motorized parachute out for a spin as well? If you did, let me know! I want to learn more about this; maybe it’s in my future.

You know how Amazon has been talking about “drones” delivering your products in the future? Maybe one day I’ll deliver freshly-repaired iPhones to my customers on one of these things. Ok, maybe not.

Have great day, Ryan

Back to school – I just had a moment…

Hello folks,

After my lunch with Brae, it’s Thursday afternoon and it seems like the entire country is going back to school right now; my son Casey was just in my office this morning (he had an interview at the Olathe Police department, kind of cool!) and we were discussing his LAST YEAR of school. He is going to be a Senior this year, and then like some sort of magic – he will be done with school and off to bigger and better things. We aren’t quite sure what that means for him yet…a career in law enforcement? Become a chef? Who knows for sure…but college is in his future and right around the corner.

What I realized is that I just registered my youngest child for his senior year in high school. This is it, no more school registrations for me! I can just remember when I was saying “I can’t wait until I get both of my kids into Kindergarten. That will be great”. Well, not only is my daughter already in her 3rd year of college (holy moly) but my son is finishing High School this year. Simply amazing.

I can tell that the entire country is in “Back to School” mode and it pretty much effects everyone, even those without children. I’ve seen a ton of Facebook posts today and many kids are starting back up already! Casey goes back next Thursday to begin the first day of his last year of school, and I know he’s 50% excited and 50% dreading that summer is already over.

We’re in the Back to School Spirit here at Mission Repair too. In fact, Melanie and I are working on a Newsletter that will release this afternoon with an awesome back to school special. We know you’re busy, and we can seen by our huge increase in orders that families are scrambling to get devices fixed before the school year (in fact, the school IT departments are back from vacation and sending in Purchase Orders like crazy!) and we want to help if we can. Our Newsletter special will help offset some of the costs that families might be incurring with all of the back to school madness. Want to be a part of the Newsletter blast? Just sign up here and you’ll get a copy later today!

Thanks again for reading everyone, and I’ll be back this afternoon in your email inbox with the Mission Repair “Back To School” special!

Take care, Ryan
