The Calm Before the Storm

Prepare your tech gadgets and plan ahead. Storm season is rolling in.

Spring brings storm season to the Midwest home of Mission Repair. Just yesterday afternoon we saw a wild storm blow over our store in Lenexa. When it comes to weather in the Midwest, expect the unexpected! A hot and sunny day can quickly transform into a stormy mess.

You don’t want to be caught unprepared when it comes to your trusty electronic devices. Communication is crucial when Mother Nature strikes. Devices like cell phones, tablets and computers can make all of the difference in keeping you safe during severe weather. We have put together a quick list of tips to get your gadgets ready while you ride the storm out:

  • Choose 2-3 weather, news, or safety-related apps to alert you of special warnings and updates. Many local news stations offer apps to live-stream weather reports.
  • Charge your device batteries well in advance, in the event that you lose power.
  • Forget candles. Utilize the free flashlight app on your phone or tablet if you are in a bind.  Get comfortable with turning it on quickly; many devices offer audio commands like “Hey Siri, Turn on my flashlight”
  • Program an emergency list of contacts into your phone for easy access. Include family, friends, coworkers, police & fire agencies, power and insurance companies.
  • The insurance industry pays out hundreds of thousands of dollars in claims for losses due to lightning each year. The best approach is to unplug your devices before the storm arrives.  However, surge protectors can offer some reassurance and protection for around $30-$100.

Caught in the rain and now you have water damage? Power surge from lightning left you with a device that won’t turn on? Startled by a loud boom of thunder and dropped your device, cracking the screen? Accidents happen and Mission Repairs!  Stop by your local Mission Repair walk-in location for a quick and cost-effective solution. http://www.MissionRepair.com

PLEASE! It’s worth the effort.

Hello there and good morning friends,

I wanted to talk about another scenario that is worth thinking about when you send your device into us; while we take in mail-in repairs every day from across the USA, there are times that the delivery driver makes mistakes. Take this package that we received recently for example:

No, there isn’t an accordion in this box, there was actually a Microsoft Surface 2 in there that somehow miraculously wasn’t damaged more than expected. A good amount of bubble-wrap took care of that.

But this is a reminder then when you send in your devices, it’s just a good idea to add “replacement value insurance” on your package in case it arrives in worse condition than this one did. We all know that things can happen, and our shipping carriers are not perfect.

Check out out shipping instructions page if you want to see what we really recommend.

I just want to make sure that your repair goes smoothly! 😉

Talk to you later, Ryan

This is a nice surprise.

Good afternoon!

I headed out to lunch today and needed to get some gas in my truck and I stopped at the Costco that is just around the corner from our Lenexa Store.  I was pleasantly surprised with this:

Screen Shot 2016-02-18 at 5.58.44 PM.png

I know that there are a lot of pictures of gas prices on Facebook and random pics floating around the Internet, but today here in Kansas City at Costco, gas is $1.329/gallon.  That’s darn near the lowest I’ve seen since I moved here in 2001!

It’s an election year, so that’s got something to do with it, right?  I’m sure the Democrats want a “thank you”.  I’d also bet the Republicans would like to take credit.  I don’t know who to thank – nor do I really care – so I’m going to just give a huge “shout out” to the gasoline gods that helped make my day by only costing me about $21 to fill up my tank this afternoon.  I don’t normally mind if gas goes up and down much; but today made a good impression.

Speaking of savings…we are extending our Presidents Day Sale through Saturday – but you’ll only know the coupon code if you get our NEWSLETTER (HINT – another one is coming to you tonight!).  Hopefully you’ve already subscribed, if not, you should do so here!

Have a good evening, Ryan

Waterfalls in Kansas? Tell your friends about it!

Hi there!  As you may or may not know, Mission Repair has locations in Kansas, and we’re not just the “flatland” that you picture when you relate the the state.  The fact is that most of Kansas is FLAT and boring to drive through if you’re traveling across country on Highway 70, but there is a cool website that talks about some of the features and attractions in each state.  Here in Kansas, they are promoting a “Water Fall Tour” and have it mapped on their website!

I know for a fact that my California friends think that I live in a wheat and sunflower wasteland here in Kansas…but we Kansans have a few hidden gems up our sleeves.  I was intrigued, and I think that I’ll take the trip via motorcycle here soon.  I thought I’d share!

Have a good morning, Ryan
