Top 5 ways to ruin your iPhone.

Hello friends-

Ruin is a strong word, I should say “ruin your day”, because in all of these cases, the iPhone can be fixed! It’s why we are in business.

I thought it was time for us to run some data through our system and come up with the top 5 ways our customers have reported damaging their iPhones. This data is similar for iPods and Android phones. Without much more to say, let’s see what and why things are happening to our customers in real life!

We will start with #5:

5. It just happened.

Unfortunately we hear this a lot. “I set the phone down and the next time I picked it up, the screen was cracked”. Or, “I left my phone in the car overnight, and now it won’t turn on.” These types of issues are a mystery. Spontaneous breakages. I think it’s the aliens that did it. In reality, a lot of issues happen without us ever knowing why; it’s no secret that electronic devices will all eventually fail naturally over time.

4. Animal ate it.

Well, I can’t really say “ate it”, but truthfully there are many times that either the family dog thought the device was a chew toy, but we are also going to include dogs stepping on devices in this one. We hear this a lot: “my dog stepped on my iPad” and the next thing you know is that we’ve had to replace a cracked glass on the device.

3. Pulled by the cord while plugged in.

It’s never a good idea to plug your iPhone in then string the cord across the hallway so that your iPhone is sitting on a table. This is a recipe for disaster, and now that white cable that you treasure so preciously just became a tripwire for the next unsuspecting passerby. This issue causes a lot of cracked screens and charging port problems.

2. Liquid Damaged.

I just heard this on Friday: “I had my iPhone in my back pocket, started to pull down my pants to use the restroom…and ker-plunk my iPhone went into the toilet.” We love these (not really). Truthfully clean toilet water in the iPhone doesn’t scare me that much; but some of my technicians might think otherwise. Spilling a glass of water, jumping into a swimming pool with an iPhone in your pocket, or dropping your iPhone into a glass of beer at a Rolling Stones concert have all been reported.

AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON IS……………..

1. Dropped!

There’s not much more to say about this one. Drops are clearly the number one reason that customers call into Mission Repair for service. Some customers even state “I dropped my iPhone from about 3 feet onto the carpet. I can’t believe that it cracked!”. Believe it. To be honest I dropped my iPhone AGAIN this weekend (I left it in my lap while driving my truck, then just got out and forgot it was there) and it fell onto the concrete driveway. I watched it for a minute, picked it up and it was still in tact. Somehow. I think that I have 9 lives like a cat when it comes to things like this, but I’m on #8.

And there you have it. Straight from the customer’s experience. Let me give you one more “abstract” testimonial from a long-time customer of ours that flies with the Blue Angels Navy Team. Lt. Amy Tomlinson took her trusty MacBook with her on a flight, and slammed the canopy of her F/A-18 Hornet crushing the screen. She called us at Mission Repair and we got her back in working order in no time. I’ve recently talked with Lt. Tomlinson and asked her about that MacBook. She was proud to say the she upgraded herself into a new unit; but the original “smashed then repaired” laptop was still being used by her mother after several years. That’s just awesome!

Have a great week, I’ll be back soon.

Waterproof iPhone!

Hello friends-

Can it be true? A waterproof iPhone? How many times have you heard about a phone being “liquid damaged” and then fails to work? This would be an amazing piece of electronics!

Well, the fact remains that there is no waterproof version of the iPhone – and iOS 7 won’t save your device from water dunks either, despite the ads you may have seen. Those were a hoax.

The bottom line is that you should not take your iPhone swimming with you, even if you have the greatest ever “Backstroke Workout” playlist. These devices do not play well with H2O. I know most users that end up with liquid damaged phones don’t intentionally dive into the deep end with their devices…rather most liquid damages occur by accident. We have even heard of customers that don’t have any idea how their phones got wet which makes the liquid damage a total mystery! Trust me though, water will quickly corrode and kill a device.

Does that mean you should go buy a new phone? Remember that “out of contract” phones are ridiculously expensive!

Well, now that you’ve found Mission Repair, we can solve these issues in our service lab. We have state of the art equipment that allows us to perform several stages of logic board repair – starting with “Stage 1 – Liquid Damage Repair“. The best part about our service is that we do it in house with our certified technicians, we complete the repair within 48 hours and we DON’T charge you for any repairs if we cannot repair it. Of course, this can happen from time to time and we wouldn’t be able to sleep at night charging you for service that didn’t fix the issue.

So when in need, Mission Repair is there for you. Want more info? Give us a call at 866-638-8402 for help!

Take care, Ryan

iPhones can’t swim.

Good afternoon everyone! We’re back in style. That long weekend did everyone some good and the 4th of July festivities were amazing last night. I love fireworks, spending time with the family and spending some time on the water. I did a little wakeboarding this weekend and I’m a little sore to be honest. There’s nothing wrong with just floating around in the lake as well – which I did plenty of!

Remember though. . .iPhones don’t swim!

Even worse yet, they HATE the water. We’ve got some tips and tricks to help the situation, but the best thing to do when you iPhone gets wet is to get it into us asap. This is not a sales tactic. It’s a fact. We need to get into the unit and clean the corrosion off immediately.

I saw this first hand. Remember I was talking about wakeboarding? Well, my iPhone got wet this weekend. I set it in the cup holder on the boat, and there was a little bit of water at the bottom of the cupholder. My dock connector got wet and this morning my iPhone would no longer charge or connect to my computer. It’s the truth and a little disassembly and cleaning took care of the problem.

In any case, your iPhone is out of warranty. Don’t bother sending your unit into Apple or try to get a warranty repair – they don’t have the same level of services – this is our specialty. We are the GO TO business for out of warranty repairs (cracked glass, liquid damage, breakage) and we’re providing the best service at the best prices with the best warranties.

Give us a call! 866-638-8402.

Best, Ryan
