Hello M:R Nation –
It was today, 7 years ago that many of us around the world sat and watched/read history in the making. With these following words, life as we know it changed:
“Today, we’re introducing three revolutionary products. The first one is a widescreen iPod with touch controls. The second is a revolutionary mobile phone. And the third is a breakthrough Internet communications device. So, three things: a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough Internet communications device. An iPod, a phone, and an Internet communicator. An iPod, a phone…are you getting it? These are not three separate devices. This is one device. And we are calling it iPhone. Today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone.” -Steve Jobs

It’s hard for us at Mission Repair not to have an emotional attachment to this day. For few of us old timers (relatively speaking) we can clearly remember taking a break from repairing the ever so popular 4th generation iPod, huddling around a computer, reading the updates and vigorously hitting the refresh button, so we could finally get a glimpse of what everyone at the time wanted so badly for Apple to produce!
Fast forward 7 years later and you can clearly see how this announcement affected everyone in the world. Yes, everyone! You are either an iPhone user or you use a smartphone that was produced by a company pushed so hard by Apple to come up with a competitive alternative just to stay in business. You only have Apple to think for your awesome Samsung GS4, because without this announcement at Macworld Expo 2007, we would all still be using flip phones.
On a side note, did you know that Mission Repair, to this day still offers repairs for the original iPhone? This is true! We have multiple folks per week needing to mend their piece of history.
To this day, the original iPhone is my favorite Apple product ever released. I regret selling mine off to buy the then, newly released iPhone 3G. I would love to have one in working condition so I can share that history with my children when they are grown. In the world of ever changing technology, this little device truly started it all. Happy Anniversary, iPhone!
Cheers, Troy
