Computer logic board repair at Mission Repair.

Hello there friends,

Every day we receive Macs and PC’s in for repair; and some times there are subtle issues that are bigger than one might think!

Recently I had a very nice customer that was simply trying to install a new solid state storage drive into his 17″ MacBook Pro; but the computer wasn’t wanting to install any new software.

He brought the unit into us, and at first I was sure that he just had a bad drive cable. So I tried a new cable but had the same issue. I tried another new hard drive with the same result. I tried the RAM, isolating everything that I could but drilled it down to a logic board (mother board) issue. Once I pulled the logic board from the unit, it was easy to see a burnt IC and resistor (center of the pic!):

The tricky part about this computer is that pretty much seems like it’s OK until you try to install software. Wow…there is just something wrong with the “logic” in this logic board!

So a little bit of surface mount rework and we will have this unit back and running perfectly for the customer.

I just want to let you know that a failing logic board can show it’s ugly head in a lot of ways. It can have no power, distorted video, not reading the memory or hard drives correctly and a myriad of other possible issues. Just keep these things in mind if you’re having computer problems, and that Mission Repair can solve them.

Have a good Wednesday! Ryan

Is Your Macbook Pro Retina Screen Cracked?

Hello M:R Nation –

The 15″ and 13″ MacBook Pros with RETINA DISPLAY are the cats meow when it comes to laptops. If you have ever seen one up close or own one for that matter, you know how beautiful they really are. We see then come through our tech benches on a daily basis and while its safe to say that we have yet so see anything naturally fail on these computers, the older they become, the more likely that is a possibility. Unfortunately, user related damage and failure is whole other story completely.

The majority of the issues we see with this computer are screen related. Sure, we will often see coffee spilt on the key board, I/O functions going haywire and logic boards frying, but the usual culprit for the owners headache is a damaged screen.

From the very moment these computers were released, we decided that we were going to repair these! They were too beautiful to ignore and leave hanging in the pits of despair that is accidental damage. Repairs started at a very high price, which is normal for any new device. But over time, the price tag started to get smaller and smaller until we landed on where we are now. $399.00 for a full retina display screen repair!

We offer it for both the 13″ and 15″ models and we are super quick to get it back to you! This is no ordinary screen replacement mind you. We have to actually dig out all of the internals of your display, shards of glass and all, and start from scratch. Installing layer after layer, until the computer is as beautiful and functions just as it did on the day that you first opened it!

We at Mission Repair would be honored to repair your MacBook Pro 13″ RETINA DISPLAY Glass and LCD Repair or MacBook Pro 15″ RETINA DISPLAY Glass and LCD Repair! Just click on those links to get started, or give us a call…lets have a chat about how we can get your piece of design history back in full working order!

Cheers, Troy

13″ And 15″ Macbook Pro Retina Screen Repairs!

Hello M:R Nation –

The 15″ and 13″ MacBook Pros with RETINA DISPLAY are the cream of the crop, the Ferrari, the…well… Apple of the laptop computers. If you have ever seen one up close, you know that they are one of the most beautifully designed pieces of hardware ever created. While I don’t currently use one (I’m going for this new “Don’t buy EVERYTHING Apple releases diet) I see them come through our tech benches on a daily basis. While its safe to say that we have yet so see anything naturally fail on these computers, the older they become, the more likely that is a possibility. Brownie + Peanut Butter Cup + Cookie = The End Of My Day

Hello M:R Nation –

We have a great people employed at Mission Repair. One person in particular goes by the name of Jackie. She is able to light up every room that she walks into. But she has a dark side. I don’t know how she discovered that my kryptonite was sweet food, but she has effectively ended my work day. This morning, she brought in a pan that consisted of my 3 favorite things. Brownies, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and cookies.

Warning: Approach With Extreme Caution!

Warning: Approach With Extreme Caution!

When I walked by this pan, I had no chance of denying myself of its goodness. It had me at hello…As you can see, this post has nothing to do with a Macbook, iPad or Samsung Galaxy S III. Its just a simple reminder to never trust your co-workers 😉

p.s. Email me at troy@missionrepair.com if you are interested in this recipe. I’ll try to pry it from her hands!

Cheers, Troy
