The truth about the iPod Touch 5 Glass Repair. It’s a harsh reality.

Hello everyone,

This is just a quick blog to talk about the difficulty we (and every other repair center) are having servicing the iPod Touch 5. Specifically replacing that 4-inch Retina display; It’s a difficult item to service and I just wanted to share our experiences.

The display itself is backed with a very thin “gasket” that’s made of plastic. We call it a bezel. The issue is that removing a screen from the device (even when it’s already damaged) as if we are going to install a new one, the bezel becomes damaged as well.

This is as good as it gets.

This is as good as it gets.

This plastic bezel is clipped into the frame and the back of the iPod – and then the glass is attached to the bezel. It’s a one way street. Assembling the unit is doable, but the dis-assembly is very difficult and next to impossible.

The iPod Touch 5 split open. That bezel is just a hassle on the production line!

So what to do? We are working with our vendors to supply us with the glass, LCD and bezel installed. This seems to be the only way to effectively reinstall the new part and make it look like it came from the factory. Which is the only way we will perform the repair for our customers.

Why would I post this? It’s information that our customers want to know. And it’s one of the reasons that the repair is so costly at this point. Soon our repair price on this particular service will drop and this issue will be a faint memory. After all, we want to keep your device in tip top condition and with the number of requests that we receive for the iPod Touch 5 Glass repair on a daily basis is proof that the public is looking for a solution. Hang tight folks; like you’ve known since 1994, I’ve been solving these issues for you, and Mission Repair will be there when you need us.

Thanks, have a great night!
