How was your Halloween?

Good morning and Happy November!
Halloween here at Mission Repair was scary…scary fun and scary busy! We had a fun day here at our offices and there’s still just a little bit of Halloween candy left here at the front desk. I’m sure someone will finish it off for us!

We had a ton on trick-or-treaters and even adults dressed up and picking up repairs. Here’s a scary ghost with her repaired iPhone in hand:

We ran a special for giving 15% off your repair if you came in with a costume on…so we had a line from funny to scary to one almost inappropriate costume that I personally found hilarious…but it was all in good fun.

Thanks to everyone that participated in the event at Mission Repair, and we appreciate your business.

Talk to you soon, Ryan

iPhone 6S Parts are hitting the market!

Good morning!

Just as a finished a blog and a tweet a few minutes ago about iPhone 6S repairs, I received an email from one of our trusted vendors stating that they have the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus screens in stock. They are ready to ship…and don’t be fooled, the iPhone 6 screen is far different than the iPhone 6S screen even though they look similar!

The only caveat is that these are some of the first in the market to be released and the price is outrageous. Believe me, you wouldn’t want to buy one of these “first release” screens, even if your phone is broken. Just hang in there for another couple of weeks for the price to simmer down and you’ll save hundreds of $$.

So I’ve got my finger on the pulse here with the iPhone 6S parts, and as soon as we land (and I mean the collective “we” of the entire repair industry) on some reasonable pricing, I will active the repairs on our website.

Thanks again, have a good afternoon.

iPhone 6S Repairs-

Hello there iPhone fans-

It’s only be a few short weeks since the iPhone 6S has been released and we’ve unfortunately already had several calls from customers asking to have their screen repaired…in fact, this customer came in Monday to show us his cracked iPhone 6S screen, you can see the crack down by the home button:

It’s unfortunate because we’re not quite ready to perform the repairs on these devices yet (they are “coming soon” on our website!), the parts are just still a couple weeks for repair centers like Mission Repair to obtain. Otherwise we are good to go.

So check back if you need that iPhone 6S or 6S Plus repaired some time in November; that’s my best guess but it could be sooner. I’ll let you know the day they are available, thanks!

A lot of talk about the iPhone 6S.

Hello there friends!

So I’ve got my iPhone 6S on pre-order. I’m getting excited!

Now that the new version of the iPhone is out, it looks like there will be a new trend here at Mission Repair and the iPhone 6S Screen repairs are being added as we speak (as well as the 6S Plus!) and we are gearing and ordering inventory as we speak. We’ve had calls from a few insurance companies asking if we are planning on offering repairs for these…the answer is…OF COURSE!

Why buy the 6S?

The headliner, the show-stopper, the fundamental reason (Apple thinks) you should buy an iPhone 6S: 3D Touch. 3D Touch brings another dimension to how you operate your smartphone. Using the new taptic engine, the iPhone 6S’s display can measure how hard you press down on it. Deeper presses on apps will bring up an option menu or provide short cuts. Two examples Apple gave were snapping a quick selfie with a deep press, and viewing a ‘Live Photo’. Sounds like I need to try it!

We are getting close! Vendors are offering 6S screens as we speak, and the other parts will be coming online at MissionRepair.com soon.

Take care, Ryan

iPhone 6S Repairs – COMING SOON!

Hello there friends!

Well, I’m due for an upgrade and I think that I’ll be waiting for the iPhone 6S to release to make the switch. I don’t know, I just feel like I deserve something new. For crying out loud even my son has the iPhone 6 Plus and I he keeps rubbing it in my face 😉

Both myself and my business are getting ready for the iPhone 6S launch. 5,4,3,2,1! They will be here before you know it!

iPhone 6S and 6S Plus – will it bend?

Hello friends,

There’s no secret that Apple announced several new products today; and they all seem to be pretty impressive! What caught my attention first was that the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are now made from 7000 series aluminum. This is in effort to stop the bending problem that the current iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have, and today’s release confirmed the rumors that have been floating around for a few months about the new structure.

Here’s a little bit about alloys for those that are truly interested. For those that are not, this may be a little waste of time 😉

The International Alloy Designation System is the most widely accepted naming scheme for wrought alloys. Each alloy is given a four-digit number, where the first digit indicates the major alloying elements.

-1000 series are essentially pure aluminium with a minimum 99% aluminium content by weight and can be work hardened.
-2000 series are alloyed with copper, can be precipitation hardened to strengths comparable to steel. Formerly referred to as duralumin, they were once the most common aerospace alloys, but were susceptible to stress corrosion cracking and are increasingly replaced by 7000 series in new designs.
-3000 series are alloyed with manganese, and can be work hardened.
-4000 series are alloyed with silicon. They are also known as silumin.
-5000 series are alloyed with magnesium.
-6000 series are alloyed with magnesium and silicon. They are easy to machine, are weldable, and can be precipitation hardened, but not to the high strengths that 2000 and 7000 can reach. 6061 alloy is one of the most commonly used general-purpose aluminium alloy.
-7000 series are alloyed with zinc, and can be precipitation hardened to the highest strengths of any aluminium alloy (tensile strength up to 700 MPa for the 7068 alloy).
-8000 series are alloyed with other elements which are not covered by other series. Aluminium-lithium alloys are an example.

So with your new found aluminum knowledge, you can see that the new iPhones will have the highest strength possible, which is a good thing in my opinion. I bent my iPhone 6 shortly after I purchased it, and I even blogged about it here.

Personally, I know that the cause of a lot of screen cracks are due to bent iPhones, so kudos to Apple for rectifying a problem that seems to have been swept under the rug.

We’ve gotten our hands on one of the new iPhone 6S screens, and there is a mysterious little chip that is soldered to the back; we are guessing that it’s the 3D touch screen “force touch” controller, but until we get our hands on a complete phone, the answer will have to remain in the hands of the engineers at Apple. Time will tell, and I can guarantee you that the repair market will be very interested in this IC that may take us by surprise.

Never fear, I know that this won’t change our ability to perform the best repairs in the market, but now that the aluminum shell is tougher, we are going to really need to hone our “blacksmithing” skills for those bent cases. Have you ever seen an iPhone after it’s fallen down a flight of stairs? We have.

If you’re an Apple fan, today was a fun day. I’m looking forward to seeing these new devices in my hands soon!

Have a good night, Ryan

iPhone 6S is coming, right?

Hello everyone,

I’m as interested in the newest iPhones that are about to come out as the rest of us, and the iPhone 6S appears to be on slate for this fall.

Leaked images (Don’t you just feel the adrenaline when you’re about to learn about a “leaked” image? Makes me feel like an international spy!) of the new iPhone 6S don’t look all that different from what we see everyday now…but the rumors are flying about the new Force Touch: a touch screen that will also be sensitive to pressure.

Leaked images of the new iPhone don't look too different from the current iPhone 6 at first glance, according to photos obtained by 9to5Mac.

The form factor will most likely be the same as the iPhone 6…so if you upgrade, you’ll be able to use the same case and accessories when you move to the 6S. However this is all still in the rumor mill and as usual we all need to wait for the real deal.

iPhone 6S: we’ll see you in a couple of months. Will you finally have a sapphire crystal glass front face? Hmm, interesting!

Take care, Ryan
