Top ways we hear how people ruin their iPhones.

Hello friends-

Ruin is a strong word, I should say “ruin your day”, because in all of these cases, the iPhone can be fixed! It’s why we are in business.

I thought it was time for us to run some data through our system and come up with the top 5 ways our customers have reported damaging their iPhones. This data is similar for iPods and Android phones. Without much more to say, let’s see what and why things are happening to our customers in real life! We will start with #5:

5. It just happened.

Unfortunately we hear this a lot. “I set the phone down and the next time I picked it up, the screen was cracked”. Or, “I left my phone in the car overnight, and now it won’t turn on.” These types of issues are a mystery. Spontaneous breakages. I think it’s the aliens that did it.

4. Animal ate it.

Well, I can’t really say “ate it”, but truthfully there are many times that either the family dog thought the device was a chew toy, but we are also going to include dogs stepping on devices in this one. We hear this a lot: “my dog stepped on my iPad” and the next thing you know is that we’ve had to replace a cracked glass on the device.

3. Pulled by the cord while plugged in.

It’s never a good idea to plug your iPhone in then string the cord across the hallway so that your iPhone is sitting on a table. This is a recipe for disaster, and now that white cable that you treasure so preciously just became a tripwire for the next unsuspecting passerby. This issue causes a lot of cracked screens and charging port problems.

2. Liquid Damaged.

iphonewater

I just heard this on Friday: “I had my iPhone in my back pocket, started to pull down my pants to use the restroom…and ker-plunk my iPhone went into the toilet.” We love these (not really). Truthfully clean toilet water in the iPhone doesn’t scare me that much; but some of my technicians might think otherwise. Spilling a glass of water, jumping into a swimming pool with an iPhone in your pocket, or dropping your iPhone into a glass of beer at a Rolling Stones concert have all been reported.

AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON IS……………..

1. Dropped!

There’s not much more to say about this one. Drops are clearly the number one reason that customers call into Mission Repair for service. Some customers even state “I dropped my iPhone from about 3 feet onto the carpet. I can’t believe that it cracked!”. Believe it.

And there you have it. Straight from the customer’s experience. Let me give you one more “abstract” testimonial from a long-time customer of ours that flies with the Blue Angels Navy Team. Lt. Amy Tomlinson took her trusty MacBook with her on a flight, and slammed the canopy of her F/A-18 Hornet crushing the screen. She called us at Mission Repair and we got her back in working order in no time. I’ve recently talked with Lt. Tomlinson and asked her about that MacBook. She was proud to say the she upgraded herself into a new unit; but the original “smashed then repaired” laptop was still being used by her mother after several years. That’s just awesome!

Have a great week, I’ll be back soon.

Mission Repair Company Picnic in two weeks!

Good morning Summertime!

I just looked outside and the weather looks gorgeous.  It’s a good thing too because I’m heading to Table Rock Lake this weekend to get some sunshine and to do a little exploring on the lake.  We’ve been there a lot over the last 10 years, but never all the way up and down the lake.  It’s going to be a bit of an adventure that I’m really looking forward to!

It’s really feeling like summer here in Kansas City, and we’ve announced our Mission Repair Company Picnic which is really fun each year.  We’ll play games and break into group for activities like Tug-O-War, “Blind” obstacle course, egg toss and a few other classics.   I usually get the BBQ going to cook for all 40 of us and there are typically a few surprises as well 😉

Never fear, we will be doing this on the second Sunday in July so we won’t be modifying our work schedule which we will keep updated here.  Please note that we WILL be closed on the 4th of July, but open like normal on the 3rd of July.  I’ll write a separate posting for that coming soon.

Have fun today, it’s going to be somewhere near 100 degrees outside in my neck of the woods, stay cool!

Take care, Ryan

Huge price decrease on iPhone 6 Plus screen repairs announced!

Hello friends of electronics!

Mission Repair has been handling the iPhone 6 Plus repair since its release, and we are happy to announce a price decrease on the iPhone 6 Plus screen repair (white or black) today.

The 5.5 inch screen is a huge leap forward for Apple, moving its iPhone range into the uncharted waters of the phablet market currently dominated by Samsung and other Android devices.

Apple has reached a previously untapped audience of smartphone users – those who demand a large screen, with ‘productivity’ the main buzzword being thrown around.

In terms of specs and design there isn’t a huge amount of difference between the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 6 – apart from the obvious size which initially led to a big difference in price for repair; but today we have closed the gap and are happy to pass the savings onto our customers.

Cracked iPhone 6 Plus screen repair – success!

Hello again, it’s been a busy blogging morning-

Earlier today I wrote a short blog about a cracked iPhone 6 Plus screen that we received in for repair. The picture was pretty devastating, and you can see that original blog here. If you click the link you can see the “before” picture. Here’s the “after”:

Notice that the customer’s background image is still there. That’s because we DON’T mess with your data when we service a unit at Mission Repair…unless it’s the data that’s the issue. In the case of a screen repair, we’ll simply replace the screen so when our customers get their phone back, it’s just like it was before the screen was damaged. This is a HUGE value and time saver for anyone that has had to migrate or restore a backup from the cloud. Every time I do it, it seems like I have issues.

This customer is done, out the door and back in business. I do recommend a case for the iPhone 6 Plus…just simply because of the size of the unit is difficult to manage for some people. We all know that accidents can happen, but if you can avoid dropping your iPhone 6 Plus…well, accidents happen.

Take care, Ryan

Cracked iPhone 6 and what it looks like from the inside…

Good afternoon-

I wanted to take some time today to talk about the iPhone 6, show you a cracked unit as received from a customer, the tear down, and the end result after my senior technicians performed the repair. This customer placed their order online for a cracked screen repair, and did so by visiting our website by clicking this link: Phone 6 Screen Repair

We received the phone, and here’s what it looked like right out of the box…CRACKED!

IMG_1121

The phone pre-tested out well, no additional issues upon arrival, all that was needed was a screen to be replaced. We disassembled the device; notice that all of the cabling is up near the top of the device on the logic board. This is good news for rework facilities like Mission Repair – less likelihood of damaging a home button cable upon opening.

IMG_1125

Then it was time to install the new screen. Our screens are exact replacements – the same screens that are used in the manufacturing process. After reassembly, all that’s left to do it test the device and run it through our QA procedure.

IMG_1126

Of course, we test all of our customer units before hey leave our facility, and we properly dispose of all used eWaste. In some cases, we gather things like batteries and other disposables and deliver them to the proper facilities. The cracked screen from this repair will be cataloged and saved internally as we may find a need for it in the future.

Since the iPhone 6 was released not even one week ago, we still have a little time for the price on these parts to “settle down” into a reasonable range. Just like anything else, demand for the screen vs. supply is skewed currently, and the price for the repair is higher than it will be by the time Christmas of this year is upon us.

As always, and with any iPhone that is still currently in use, we can repair the screen for you fast. Point in case, we received this device and were able to check it into our system, run it through our pre-test station, deliver it to the technician production line, repair the device, notate the customer’s order in our database, complete the repair, send it to QA, ship it and notify the customer of their outbound tracking number all in the same day. We do this thousands of times every month and we keep getting better!

That’s the Mission Repair Difference, and we’re here to help.

Have a great weekend. Ryan

P.S. – This iPhone was not bent when we received it. No bending here yet!
