Time To Grill?

Hello M:R Nation –

It’s March 10th and I think its safe to say that winter is behind us… Looking at the forecast, all I see are temperatures well above freezing and a little rain. However, I am VERY cautious when approaching this subject as we are located in the midwest and if you have ever lived or visited here around this time year, you know exactly how bipolar our weather can be.

Throwing caution to the wind, yesterday I decided to test our fate as a region and turn on the grill for the first time this year. I know, what better way to jinx myself than prematurely taking part in Americas favorite pastime? Let me tell you, even if we do incur another 2 weeks of winter because of my decision yesterday, it was worth it. You never realize how depressing wirer was until you have had your first grilled steak of the season. Instantly, the cold and bitterness of winter leave your body and you can once again enjoy your life!

Your mouth is watering, isn’t it?

Now I’m not saying winter is all that bad, but you truly forget what the other 3 seasons have to offer when cooped up inside for 3 months. If you are still feeling winters funk, I implore you to give grilling a try. It just might be the medicine you are looking for!

How about a little contest? I want to see your grilling skills and if you just so happen to have a broken device, this contest will benefit you greatly!

For the next week, I will be accepting pictures of your “Spring awakening”. It can be a steak, eggplant or a shoe for that matter. That’s right, even vegetarians need some hope that winter is over. For every entry, I will be sending a 10% coupon to apply to your order. The person with the most mouth watering picture will receive an extra 20% off of their order in a form of a coupon code or refund on their account!

You read that right, up to 30% off your entire order for the winner! To place your entry, send your picture to coupons@missionrepair.com and receive your coupon code instantly. I will be emailing the winner of the additional 20% directly. So here is to happy grilling and saving some cash at the same time!

Cheers, Troy

Repair Or Replace?

Hello M:R Nation –

Repair or Replace? This question is something that you might be facing at this very moment. Let me set the stage…You just dropped your iPad Mini flat on it’s face. This drop, subsequently resulted in a cracked screen! The first thing you do is recoil with remorse and self-loathing, then you…

This is where it becomes a little gray. Your first action might be to call the place that you bought it from to see what they will do for you. You quickly find that if you didn’t purchase any kind of extended warranty for accidental damage, you are on your own. Oh yes, they offer you a replacement at full price, but is that your best option?

In steps Mission Repair! “We say no, replacing your entire device just because of a cracked screen does not make sense”! When you crack the screen on your car, you certainly don’t replace it? Of course, we understand the price difference between a new car and a new iPad Mini, but if you have a chance to save some cash, why not?

Also, did you know that when you choose Mission Repair as your repair center, you are choosing a green path? If you have been following this blog for any amount of time, you know that we are proponents of green living. We recycle items such as glass, aluminum, batteries and LCD screens that come out of the devices we repair. We have contracts with large recycling companies around the globe that are able to take these items and either rebuild new functioning parts, melt down and/or properly dispose of any unusable materials.

We do this because we want to. We are not regulated by Federal or State government to do so. We are not saying we are the greenest company in the world and we know there is a lot of work and improvement to be done, but these first steps we have taken have really shed some light on just how much we can keep out of the land fills if we just try…a little.

So with that being said, here are just a few ways you are helping the environment and yourself when using Mission Repair to repair your gadgets.

  • Less E-Waste: When you take your old broken Smartphone, Tablet or Computer and throw it away, it is called E-Waste. E-Waste is a growing problem with an estimated 50 million tons of E-waste are produced each year.
  • Piece of mind: That the battery coming out of your device is not ending up in the trash. Batteries of any kind are harmful.
  • More Cash: When repairing your device (especially with Mission Repair), you are going to save money over buying a whole new device. We are talking a fraction of the cost here, people!
  • Less Hassle: There is nothing more annoying and unnecessary to me than having to set up my device again. I have it perfect the way it is and I don’t want to change it! With repairing your device, what you send in, is what you receive back. You will not be receiving a refurbished device, you will receive YOUR device with your data still intact.
  • Life-Time Friendship: When you chose Mission Repair as your repair center, you can not only count on having your repair done correctly, you can also bank on some of the best warranties in the industry! You can also keep our number on hand and consider us your “Techie” friend if you have any further questions on your devices!

Still want to replace that device? Give us a call and let us try to talk you out of it. We promise, you will not regret your decision!

Cheers, Troy

To Repair Or Not Repair?

Hello M:R Nation – That is the question of the week. With every September, comes an Apple media event. With an Apple media event, comes newly released products and with newly released products comes that question… Should I repair this broken Smartphone screen? Some of you might be looking to switch from an Android or Windows phone, some of you might be limping along, for as long as you can, to get a glimpse of the new products before you make your decision. And some of you might be just like my friend John, his iPhone 5 is perfectly fine, but he just wants the newest product that Apple has to offer! For those of you that are saying that, this post might not be for you :-). So lets talk for a moment on what Apple is expected to release. We are anticipating two new iPhone products. The iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.

The iPhone 5S should bring the following features:

  • No change to outer design
  • Revamped rear camera and dual -LED flash
  • 128GB internal capacity option
  • Biometric home button (fingerprint scanner)
  • Gold and Graphite backcase option
Tempting, but i'll wait one more year!

Tempting, but i’ll wait one more year!

The iPhone 5C should bring:

  • Lower cost to consumers
  • Plastic housing
  • Five color option (White, Black, Yellow, Pink and Green)
  • 4″ Retina display
  • Same functionality as iPhone 5S
So pretty!

So pretty!

So with those features in mind, the question becomes, can I live without the latest and greatest from Apple? My personal opinion is YES! If I was faced with the same dilemma, it is easy to see from the information provided, that Apple is not going to release a game changer tomorrow. We will not see  the same jump as we saw from the original iPhone to the iPhone 3G. Nor, will we see the same quality of jump that was the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4. Why is that? I believe as far as hardware goes, its going to be hard to beat what Apple already produces. Granted, we usually never see a true hardware redesign until after the “S” is released.

Alright, so I know my “OPINION” is not that convincing. but let me shed some light on the facts of repairing over replacing:

  • It is usually cheaper to repair your Smartphone, than replace (Consider the new 2 year agreement you are about to sign up for)
  • It’s green (Meaning you don’t have to contribute to a growing worldwide e-waste problem)
  • You don’t have to deal with the hassle of moving over all of your data over (I recently had to do this…not fun)
  • It most cases, you are supporting a local business

Ok, so if you are dead tired of your old iPhone 3GS or Samsung GS3 and are just ready for something new , let me make a case for you. Did you know that you could sell that old Smartphone? You can find many business that will buy your old device from you. You could also sell them yourself on eBay or Craigslist and Apple has even started their own trade in program so you can use that against the purchase of new products in their retail stores. In every case, you will make substantially more with a fully functioning Smartphone than a broken one. Just take a look at the example below:

Price with a broken Screen

Price with a non-broken screen!

This is just one example where if you have your iPhone 5 repaired before you try to sell it, you can make an extra $40.00 – $50.00! Now, this is the very low end of what you can get for a used iPhone 5, but the same applies with craigslist, eBay or the slew of other trade-in programs out there.

So, I hope this sheds some light on why its a good thing to repair instead of completely replace your smartphone when an event like tomorrow is upon us. If you choose to repair and keep, repair and replace or repair and give away as a gift, the common denominator here is REPAIR! Don’t let that smartphone end up in the garbage or in your bottom drawer for years to come!

iPhone Rumors And The Iced Americano!

Ok People – I have two very important events taking place at my desk, right this very second. I started a post that had nothing to with what I’m about to talk about here, but a new service can always wait… Right?

A. I am catching up on the newest iPhone rumors and it is heating up. Here is what we in the fanboy community know so far: We will be seeing 2 new iPhone models launched. The iPhone 5S and a lower priced iPhone “5C”. The iPhone 5 S will be very similar to the iPhone 5 with some upgrades that have been rumored to a tame upgraded dual LED flash to a wild sapphire- covered convex home button with a fingerprint sensor. If you ask me, I think Apple will do as they always do and just slightly improve on what is an already great product.

Now the iPhone 5C is another story. It is a completely new product and the purpose of it is to be a lower cost solution for folks that want an iPhone in their lives! It will have an all plastic shell, come in a slew of colors and from what I am hearing, a great camera.

The Rumored iPhone 5C Back Case!

B. I am thoroughly enjoying this iced Americano whilst I am catching up on these rumors! What is an iced American you ask? It is the most simple and delicious drink you can have if you enjoy the taste of strong coffee. Take espresso, a little bit of water, ice and you will have one stellar drink! Sure, throw some sugar or milk in there if you need. But to enjoy in its purest form, drink it straight 🙂

Yummy

Thanks Starbucks! You are never my first choice, but you will do…

In closing…we know how exciting a new product release from Apple can be and If you have a broken iPhone 4, 4S or 5, the release of the new iPhone 5S can’t come soon enough. But consider this, Mission Repair can repair that broken iPhone for you! Like we always say: Repair, Don’t Replace! You can either save yourself from entering into ANOTHER 2 year contract, spending a whole gaggle of cash on an unsubsidized phone or at least repair so you can sell it for a maximum profit and put that money towards your new iPhone 5S!

Whatever you choose to do, we are here to help and save you money! That is why we started Mission Repair and that is why we are still around after all this time! You and other people love to save money!

Cheers, Troy
