No Shave November!

Hello M:R Nation –

I have a few blokes here at Mission Repair that were talking about participating in “No Shave November”. The main reason for this is to raise awareness for men’s health, but there have been many tales of its origins. I myself, think its simply an excuse to be lazy and I embrace that!

I have a total of 8 gents that I will be chronicling for the next 4 weeks. I will take a picture of their progress once a week and post it right here on our wonderful blog!

Say Hi to Jake, David, nick, Ryan, Albert, Phil, Justin and Lennie!

So here they are, the 8 brave/lazy souls participating in this storied tradition(I’ll spare you and them of a large sized picture )! As you can see, some of them already have a head start. This should make for some epic beardness for sure! While I sport quite the fancy beard myself, I am not 100% sure that I will let it grow rugged yet. I will keep you updated on that decision.

We like to turn things into a competition around here and this is going to be no different. While I have no idea on how I will decide the winner yet, I do know the prize. I find it a much needed prize to be handed out in this situation. It is a years subscription to the Dollar Shave Club paid for by Mission Repair! I love this company and am a proud member so I can vouch for the prize!

I would like to make this something our readers can benefit from as well, I will also provide a years subscription to the most Epic beard or other hair growth (I know it sounds nasty, but we are about equality here at MR, so men and woman are welcome to join but keep it PG) to one of our brave/lazy readers :-)!

To join the competition, you will need to send in 4 different pictures to troy@missionrepair.com titled NSN Entry and here is what I will need from you:

1) Starting Point Picture

2) Week 2 growth

3) Week 3 growth

4) Final Week growth

By joining the competition, you agree to have your picture posted here on the MR Blog if you are named the winner. Happy November to everyone and good luck on those beards!

please note: This competition in no way, shape or form will interfere with our awesome iPhone, iPodiPad, Smartphone, tablet, Mac or PC repair services !

Cheers, Troy

The truth about iPad 2 Glass Repairs.

Hello all,

We’ve been rocking at the Mission Repair base and we certainly have a ton of new info to present to you shortly, but beforehand we should discuss the iPad 2 screen assemblies and the gasket that runs under the edge of the screen.

As we all know, the iPad 2 has been a very popular tablet that is really taking the lion’s share of tablet sales. There are a ton of tablet “players” (I even went to Costco today and saw Vizio tablets for sale!) but the iPad is truly the best.

Of course, like many popular small electronics the screens on these units are GLASS. Additionally the backplates are ALUMINUM, and the gasket between the glass and the backplate is rigid PLASTIC. All of these materials are very susceptible to drops and damages and there are issues when repairing them. Let’s get to it:

1. We receive many units with cracked glass, just like this one. It’s relatively obvious that this unit was dropped on the corner (you can see the flattened corner clearly) and it has subsequently cracked the glass. We’ll be happy to replace the glass on this cracked iPad 2.

2. Here’s a new piece of glass that’s about to be installed onto the unit. As you can clearly see, the glass has the original rounded corner that WILL NOT fit into the damaged ALUMINUM back plate as-is.

3. Here’s a new gasket. Remember it’s hard, rigid plastic and in this case, because the unit was dropped on it’s corner, the gasket is cracked and broken. Like any gasket, it’s designed to keep the dust out, keep a barrier between the glass and the aluminum, and it also serves as a “finished” look on your iPad that appears clean and factory fresh. In this case, we would MOST CERTAINLY recommend that the customer replace the gasket. It is a small additional charge, however it is not 100% necessary.

4. Here’s the dented back case. You can see that it has been flattened, and there’s NO WAY that replacing the glass (without some back case modification) it will fit. This customer now has two options. First, we can replace the back plate at an additional charge, or we can modify the back plate with hand tools and a small polishing grinder to rework the rounded corner at no extra charge. The second of these two options will not look perfect, but it’s a work around that will allow us to install the glass correctly and professionally.

There are a lot of options here, and this example is the worst of it’s kind. The customer has opted to have us modify the back plate, install a new gasket, and install a new screen. I personally feel that this is the wise choice and the most economical choice as well.

Don’t get fooled by other repair companies stating otherwise – when choosing a service center, you need to have these options when deciding on your iPad 2 repair. Not having these options is like being offered 1/2 of the repair and it’s irresponsible. Of course, you know that Mission Repair has the parts in stock, the experience and the service capabilities to make your iPad 2 repair right and fixed right the first time. Our technicians will be happy to assist you with your decisions and recommend the right repair that suits your needs.

Of course if you didn’t drop your iPad on the corner and the back case isn’t damaged, most likely your gasket isn’t damaged, and none of this will apply to you 😉

Mission Repair is the Intelligent Choice!

Thanks, I’ll be back soon with more great information!

Need that rubber gasket replaced on your iPad 2?

Hello folks, good afternoon! We’re kind of excited about a new part that we received last week, but I have yet to talk about it. We now have the ability to replace the “gasket” around the glass screen on the iPad 2. Why is this important?

Well, the gasket (we also call it the bezel) it most likely going to incur some damage when you drop your iPad, and when you send the iPad into repair to us, of course we can replace the glass but you also want to know that we can replace that damage seal between the glass and the back housing. This would be a worth while service for anyone that wants the iPad to look BRAND NEW again. I mean in most cases it’s not absolutely necessary to have the gasket replaced for the unit to function, but heck why have a brand new iPad screen installed and leave the gasket broken, dented, or even missing. . .it’s your choice, but at least you have a choice when it comes to your expensive device!

Like I said, it’s not a mainstream repair, but it’s more proof that we’re doing our best to keep the necessary parts in stock and for those customers that are picky about their device. We can restore them back to factory specs! It’s the Mission Repair way, and it’s the Intelligent Choice.

Take care, Ryan

Why pay for iPhone or MacBook Diagnosis?

Good afternoon friends, here at Mission Repair we’ll never charge for diagnosis.

I’ve noticed that there are many companies in the iPod and iPhone Repair market that are charging customers for diagnostic services. Since our inception, Mission Repair has offered FREE diagnosis on ANY product we service. This is just one of the ways that Mission Repair extends it’s value to the public.

Low on cash? How about a $0 diagnosis fee from Mission Repair!

When I see companies charging for diagnosis, it appears to me that they are trying to make money and have little or no confidence in their business. I get it. The diagnosis fee a safety net. It’s an easy way to make money…If the repair is not possible, too expensive, or just too aggravating to the technician, the customer still pays up to $25. I’ve seen it so many times before. Here at Mission Repair our customers never pay for diagnosis or diagnostics fees. If the device ends up being beyond economic repair, the customer doesn’t need to pay us $25 to tell them that. It’s just seems fair to me. I’d rather rely on my awesome staff to make sure the repair needed is WORTH paying for and we don’t want to bait our customers into using our services with a $25 commitment.

We continue to believe (and I say it on the phone all the time) that the customer always remains in control of the repair. We want the customer experiencing value and trustworthiness.

The bottom line is that we don’t want to stop customers from trying our services. This is why we continue to offer FREE diagnostics on your electronic devices. We don’t overcharge for repairs and our customers have the final say on what they are comfortable paying. If our repair price is ever out of the customer’s price range, they don’t pay. We also try to keep our pricing simple and provide all of our popular repair service pricing up front.

Whether you’re looking for an iPod to be repaired, iPad, iPhone, Apple Computer or Cell phone, we strive to remain the industry leader and a customer favorite.

Thanks, Ryan
