Adopt An iPad?

Hello M:R Nation –

Our marketing department comes up with some pretty clever stuff. Some of the ideas come to fruition and some never see the light of day. Something interesting that came across my desk recently was a play on pet adoption. Instead of a cute puppy or hamster, it utilizes iPads and other devices that we see abandoned here at our Kansas City location. While we might still use this idea, I though it was cute enough to share to our over 800,000 unique blog readers (shameless boast). Here is our “Adopt a device” program in its infancy:

Meet our iPad Mini!

This scuffed up guy once enjoyed playing angry birds, watching netflix and surfin’ the net for new restaurants in the KC area. After being dropped, resulting in a cracked screen this iPad Mini’s owner decided to replace him instead of repairing. This neglected tablet is looking for a forever home and a new LCD Screen! Adopt this iPad Mini and take it home for only $150. (Adoption fee includes new LCD screen and repair costs by our certified technicians!)

Our plan here is to take unwanted devices and offer to you for free and all you would pay is the price that it would be to repair the device. While this sounds like a great idea to us, we would like to test this with our readers. Our goal is to keep these devices out of the land fills and get them out of our building to be completely honest. So what do you think? Would you adopt a device? You have a chance for a low cost device that will last you years to come!

Take a moment and let me know what you think via the above poll.

Cheers, Troy

My iPhone 5 Is Broken!

Hello M:R Nation –

You did in fact read the title correctly. My iPhone 5 is broken and guess what, I’m not going to repair it :-)! I will let Apple take the reigns on this one. You see, my iPhone 5 is still under warranty and though I would enjoy supporting Mission Repair with some of my hard earned money, I’d just rather have this repaired for free.

When I try to take pictures or a video with my iPhone 5, strange artifacts appear in the shot. It is kind of ghosty if you ask me. So while I am going through this, I might as well review my experience.

I went through Apple as a normal customer (because I am), and it took me some time to figure how to get a box sent to me. It seems every effort is put in place to get me to keep the phone or take it to a genius at my local store. While this is fine, it was a little off putting. I just want to send it out and not think about until I receive it back. I finally figured it out and this is what I received today:

Let the games begin!

Let the games begin!

I will get this thing shipped out and we will see what happens from there. Keep your eyes peeled for an update on this. My prediction is that I will receive a refurbished unit, so I better back up my data pronto!

Now this whole experience brings up a relevant topic for me to share with our customers and/or soon to be customers. We have made it a habit here at Mission Repair to check on your warranty for you if we receive your device and think it might still have coverage. We don’t want you to spend money if you don’t have to. This is a practice that dates back well into the 1st generation iPod repairs we used to do and we still practice it to this day.

If you have a cracked screen on your iPhone 5 or iPad Mini, its pretty obvious that it will not be covered under warranty. But if you have a newer device and think it might be under warranty and it has no signs of physical or water damage, double check with Apple, you have a good chance of a no cost repair or replacement. So why am I giving you this information? Because I am just like you, I don’t like to spend money when we don’t have to. So please take this tip for what it is worth and we will have your back the next time around when you don’t have that warranty coverage.

Now what am I going to do about a phone for the next few days?

Cheers, Troy

2013 Is Just Around The Bend!

Hello M:R Nation –

Mission:Repair has a record setting day yesterday and our customer service team just finished icing their ears and fingers. We expect today to be just as busy and they are currently performing some stretches to loosen up for all of your calls ;-)!

With that, we are looking at the end of another year. A year full of goods and bads, firsts and lasts and beginnings and ends for all of us. This was also a year full of great new devices. From Apple to Huawei there has been no disappointment from smartphone manufacturers around the world.

Usually around this time of the year, I like to talk about ringing in the New Year and this year will be no different. However, before I start thinking about 2013, I would love to have one last hurrah in 2012. We will do this by doing what we do best, SAVING YOU CASH!

Our Last Hurrah!

Samsung Infuse: Still On High Demand!

Hello M:R Nation –

We have grown to love many of Smartphones over the past 2 years and the Samsung Infuse is at the top of our “Love List”. It has been with us through the good times and the bad. It has never failed or faltered as one of our top repairs and we see no change in the coming years.

Released in May 15th, 2011, the Infuse is getting close to 2 years old (which translates to about 100 years in smartphone years) is still receiving the newest software updates and is still holding strong compared to those young bucks like the Samsung Galaxy S II and  Samsung Galaxy S III.

I envy the folks that can keep a singular phone for more than a years time. That means I envy ALL of our customers and most people in the world. I have an iPhone problem and I am not afraid to admit it 🙂

Let us keep your smartphone running for years to come. There is no need to buy a new phone just because you have a little crack in yours, send it on over to Missionrepair.com and let us fix it up for ya! Just ask the MANY Samsung Infuse owners that have used our services, they’ll tell you whats up 🙂

Cheers, Troy
