Last weekend I got a call from my mom who needed some help around the house. Since she’s now living alone, of course I need to head out and take care of a few things from time-to-time. After a long day of lifting and working on her A/C unit, I took some time to get out my father’s 1964 Ford Galaxie. It needed to have the battery charged…I checked the oil and transmission fluids, topped off the radiator, and got her started up. My mother hasn’t driven the car in over a year (the last time I started and drove it)…
So I was able to take this hot rod up to the gas station, fill it with new gas and drive it around for a bit. It felt great. In fact, it was such a nice day out we cruised with the windows down and listened to the rumble of that old V8. I think that I felt the same thing that my dad used to feel when he drove this beauty around. You just feel cool driving it!
Growing up around my father that always had hot rods and classic cars, I’ve had a few of them myself. My 1966 GTO is one that I miss dearly…and after hanging my elbow out of the window and driving up and down the streets last weekend made me think that it might be time to get a new project for myself. I’ve always wanted a 1968 Camaro; I’ll let you know what I decide – or maybe it’s time to take the Galaxie and put a Ryan “spin” on it…I’ll keep you in the loop.
Until then, if the weather is still nice in your area…roll down the windows and take a cruise one day this week. A cruise to nowhere. You just might be surprised at how relaxing it can be!
Have a great day, Ryan
