Did you see us on the news?

Good morning friends-

We had a short spot on the Channel 41 news late last week in conjunction with the iPhone 6 release. The news crew came by our Mission Repair Express location to discuss iOS 8 and it’s new security features. My manager Jake Bayes got 10 seconds of fame!

You can check out the entire spot by clicking here.

Jake, you ready for the big screen? I’d start working on your autograph.

Just having a little fun today, thank you to all that visited a Mission Repair location this weekend. Even during the football games we had a line of customers – I promise to add TV service to our waiting rooms!

I’ll be back soon…Ryan

More iPhone 6 “Sapphire Glass” discussion.

Hello again everyone-

If you haven’t heard, there’s a lot of talk about the sapphire glass in the iPhone 6 due to release shortly, and we’ve learned lately that it’s possible the the 64GB model will indeed come with a sapphire glass.  In fact, we’re prepping services for the iPhone 6 as we speak:

We know that the technology and production is there; companies like Apple are making sapphire screens using manufacturers like GT Advanced Technologies. Apple may limit the use or release the sapphire screens on a limited basis initially; my personal guess is that if Apple unveils the “iWatch”, it WILL have a sapphire crystal screen on it. There might even be a “hybrid” sapphire glass formula a few sources have reported.  But heck, I really don’t know for sure.  I’m not Apple.

It still begs the question: Will customers really fall in love with the sapphire screen?

It’s logical that it will be more scratch resistant. That’s good. However I’ve personally owned just about every iPhone and I have never had a “scratched” screen problem.  It seems to me (coming from the repair industry) that a scratched screen would most likely mean a cracked screen. There’s little info on how well a large sapphire screen will stand up to a typical “cracking” scenario.

I’ve read that sapphire is more brittle than glass and is likely to be more prone to breakage than Gorilla Glass. Time will tell, but personally I’m not sure if I’d spend the extra money on a sapphire “option” quite yet – if there is one coming next week.

Food for thought…what have you heard?  I’ll talk to you again soon, Ryan

Yes, it’s a workday.

Hello friends-

It was an awesome weekend and Monday has already come and (is almost) gone. Tonight at Mission Repair we have a quarterly company meeting; we gather all of the employees and get together to discuss issues, promotions, new hires, new policies, new repairs, etc. It’s a good time and tonight we are having Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ cater in the dinner. Ever been to Oklahoma Joe’s? It’s one of the restaurants that you need to add to your bucket list. We take it for granted here in Kansas City, but for those that travel from abroad, this is a famous and popular stop for many.

Almost time for some BBQ!

Almost time for some BBQ!

I was just thinking that next week is a short week! Yes, for most of us we will be taking the day off next Monday for Labor Day- but a lot of you in retail will be working. I get it; we are in a bit of a conundrum here at Mission Repair. We have always taken the day off; but now we have a retail location that is open 7 days a week. Does that mean that we should also close the retail location (as well as our corporate headquarters) to accommodate all of the employees? I need to think about this and time is running out!

In any case, we have a lot to do this week to be ready for the Labor Day rush. We will be putting out an amazing newsletter at the end of the week with some serious prices drops on some of our most popular services. Have an iPhone 5S screen that’s cracked? It’ll go on sale Friday afternoon if you can wait!

Otherwise, have a great weekend and I’ll talk to you again tomorrow. Melanie has promised me that she’s going to blog again in the morning, it’ll be good to hear from her.

Take care, Ryan

Will the Phone 6 prove to be UNBREAKABLE?

Hello there iPhone fans…

It seems that Apple is ready to take the plunge and move from the not-so-tough Gorilla Glass to Sapphire Crystal for their screen material – which has been around for years.

In fact, Sapphire was used in the iPhone 5S as a camera lens and for the home button – both for durability and clarity.

Sapphire has been used in uncountable applications over the years. For example, many high-end watches have sapphire crystals for durability – because if you’re like me, I seem to bang my watch around as I move through life.

Will your new iPhone start out like this?

Will your new iPhone start out like this?

Apple’s move to install a costly sapphire crystal display on the iPhone 6 could prove to be a difference maker for some people. While I have no doubt that it will be more scratch resistant, I have doubts that it will be more shatter-proof than Gorilla Glass. At this point it’s just my feeling about the paper-thin sapphire but we will see…and I’m very interested to learn about the real-world results coming in a couple of months.

As the Owner of a repair center for more than a decade, I can tell you that each iPhone that is released has offered several challenges and I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t worried a time or two. I’m sure that Apple will throw a lot of money toward the sapphire crystal display marketing and I do hope that it’s more durable than older revisions of the iPhone screen; I’m just not convinced that it will be.

We’ve repaired hundreds or thousands of phones. I’d say 3 of those were for “scratches” in the glass.

There’s another issue that can cause a bit of heartburn here as well for some repair centers; that there’s rumors of a “matched” IC chip that’s installed on the LCD of each iPhone 6. This means that simply “swapping” out screens will be a thing of the past. It will be a true repair and when it may seem simple to some, it will be impossible for others.

We will keep you posted on the iPhone 6 and we will report back after it’s release to let you know about the repair capability, feasibility and costs – and I might just have to get one!

Stay tuned to the Mission Repair blog.

Take care, Ryan

Wowsers- thanks for stopping by Mission Repair this weekend!

Hello friends-

My General Manager, Troy, sent out a newsletter blast to all of our subscribers and wham…we had a record-breaking weekend.

During our staff meeting this morning, I called out the employees that worked over the weekend to stand up and take a bow. A few of them looked exhausted 😉

We had a huge number of walk in customers that came by and waited for repairs with a surprising number of new mail-in orders as well. The simple fact is that if you visited our store this weekend, you might have had to wait for a bit. I appreciate your patience, and extend my gratitude. We’re back on track today, and we’ve staffed up at our Mission Repair Express location this week to make sure that we can handle the flow!

At times, running one of these repair businesses can really mount up the stress, but thankfully I’ve got an excellent staff helping me take can of each of our customers.

Have an issue with your experience at Mission Repair or want to give someone you’ve interacted with a glowing review? Send us an email to solutions@missionrepair.com and we’ll be happy to chat.

Thanks again, I’m headed for home to make dinner soon, have a great night!

Ryan
