What is an iPhone digitizer?

I know that there are a ton of question about the “digitizer” on your iPhone, or any other touch-screen smartphone these days. We here at Mission Repair are experts and very familiar with iPhone digitizers, glass, and screens. We repair them by the thousands every month. Let’s see if we can demonstrate what the digitizer is here under a glass panel:

This is the digitizer on an iPhone!

The digitizer is fused UNDER the glass cover. It’s the electronic component that senses the touch of a human finger through the glass, and is designed to allow the unit to be controlled by a fingertip. This is the “input” of the device and it’s very thin and transparent.

The point is that you cannot replace the digitizer alone. Since it’s part of the glass, in the event of a touch failure it needs to be replaced with the glass and vice versa. So if you have a cracked iPhone glass, you’re going to get a new digitizer as well. If you have an iPhone that doesn’t respond to touch, you’ll also get a new glass. It’s just the way it’s designed.

You might see these assemblies marketed as:

  • iPhone glass
  • iPhone digitizer
  • iPhone touch screen
  • iPhone glass screen
  • iPhone screen
  • iPhone touch panel

For all intents and purposes, these terms are all interchangeable and are all the same thing. Are you in need of one of these parts? Here’s a list of glass/digitizer repairs that we sell here at Mission Repair:

Don’t forget our wide selection of iPad Glass Repair options!

Remember, you might see these glass panels for sale cheap – be sure to inquire about the required digitizer that is fused to the glass from the factory – without it, the glass is useless. You cannot replace the glass or “remove” your good digitizer and reinstall it onto your iPhone without advanced equipment and lots of training. It just doesn’t work! These assemblies are built together and must stay together. I hope this information helps!

Hello there from Kansas City, we are about to get the storm of the year. Plus a coupon inside!

Hello everyone,

We are preparing for the worst. Starting tomorrow evening, the weather forecast calls for blizzard conditions and a lot of snow- between 5 and 15 inches around the Kansas City area. I think that we here at Mission Repair will be on the lower end of the snowfall, but it still makes for a heck of a commute and a mess on the streets.

We haven’t had much snow lately, in fact, I rode my motorcycle on Sunday, because it was about 60 degrees out. Today on the other hand, it’s going to be a high of 35 degrees and my feet are actually cold as I sit here at my desk. I think I’ll wear my wool socks tomorrow and Thursday!

Don't venture out to get your phone or computer repaired Thursday - just call us and we'll have it picked up from you!

Don’t venture out to get your iPhone repaired Thursday – just call us and we’ll have it picked up from you!

Never fear- Mission Repair will be open for business as usual, but I would anticipate that our walk-in traffic will be lighter than normal tomorrow afternoon and Thursday. If you’re in need of an iPhone or iPad repair, never fear, we will still take care of you.

In fact, I encourage you to NOT drive in the impending mess. Please let us have your device picked up from your location, even if you’re in the Kansas City area, and leave the driving to FedEx. They will take care of things while the snow is falling. We do charge a small fee for this service, but I’ll also introduce a coupon that will offset the costs as much as possible.

Just use coupon code “blizzard” now until Sunday evening (that’s February 19 – February 24, 2013) when you checkout online and you’ll receive 15% off of your entire order, even on shipping. This way, if you’re in the path of the storm, you can stay put and relax. We’ll handle your repair while you’re snuggling by the fire!

If you not in the path of the blizzard, that’s OK; you can use the coupon too.

Have a great week!!

Ryan

Hello M:R Nation –

With 2013  just days away, there is a renewed atmosphere around the office. We all really enjoy the start of a fresh year to possibly expunge some bad habits and replace with great ones. Now if that actually happens is another post all together.

The Holidays bring some funky hours for most business and I wanted to make everyone aware of the remainder “funky” Mission Repair hours.

We will be closed on January, 1st 2013 and will immediately be back open for business on January, 2nd 2013! A short break for us to ring in the New Year with our families! So to recap:

December, 29th 2012 – OPEN!

December, 30th 2012- OPEN!

December, 31st 2012 – OPEN!

January, 1st 2013 – CLOSED 😦

January, 2nd and beyond – OPENED!

I am sure we will cross paths before 2013, but if not, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cheers, Troy
