Good news for “older” iPhones! OS 9.2.1

Hello there everyone,

AppleInsider today reported that the iOS 9.2.1 update can potentially make iOS 9 a smoother experience for people with older iPhones, according to a new series of YouTube videos featuring side-by-side comparisons with devices running iOS 8.4.1.

Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 2.54.29 PM.png

Although installing 9.2.1 still causes an iPhone 4S or 5 to boot slower, once in action the software can load apps as fast or faster than 8.4.1 in many circumstances, according to the article. Boot times are said to be speedier than 8.4.1 when running the software on an iPhone 5s, which was also the first iPhone with a 64-bit processor.

A consistent problem with iOS has been the tendency for devices as little as a year or two old to suddenly see slowdowns after upgrading to a new version. This is despite the fact that Apple will deliberately disable some processor-intensive features on older hardware.

A lawsuit filed last month accuses Apple of misleading customers with the claim that iOS 9 is compatible with devices ranging back to the iPhone 4S. In reality Apple is practicing planned obsolescence, the case charges, since people who update a 4S will take a performance hit but find themselves unable to downgrade to 8.4.1 or earlier — nudging them towards buying newer hardware.

We all know that these devices update and upgrade faster than our contracts allow, so unless you’re one of the few that just simply wants and can afford the newest piece of hardware every 6 months, you’ll want to extend the life of your “old” device for a long as possible to maximize your investment.  That’s where Mission Repair can help, so if you have a problem with your phone, we will be happy to take care of it for you.  If you want to upgrade your software, at least Apple is still helping some of the older units at the moment, enjoy!

See ya, Ryan

In case you missed our past Super Bowl commercials:

Hello there!  There’s a lot of hype coming up to Super Bowl 50.  It’s right around the corner and that’s all ESPN is talking about right now.

4 teams remain in what might prove to be a fantastic match up on the big day…however this weekend may be an even better entertaining football weekend in itself.  The last two teams in each division will face off and the winner of each game heads to the 2016 Super Bowl 50 extravaganza.  I’m really excited to see who has the best team after all.

In fact, did you know that Mission Repair has advertised in a few Super Bowls at halftime as well?  The commercials of the Super Bowl are always talked about, and we have been in the half-time show for a few years and our commercials have been seen by millions.  You might remember this two part commercial from 2013.

Part one:

and Part two:

Our commercials page has received a lot of attention over the years for our creative and “shocking” commercials that won the hearts of millions.  Of course, we had our critics.  One thing that I’ve learned is that you can’t please everyone, and the only way to stay our of the cross-hairs is not run commercials at all.  The votes were overwhelmingly positive in our favor, but we will let time tell on whether or not you’ll see us in Super Bowl 50.  Will you be watching?

I know that I will be there, eating chips an hot wings and rooting on my favorite team for sure…we are down to 4 teams to battle it out and I’m getting excited!

Take care, Ryan

Midland Railroad Hotel. It’s worth a look.

Hello there,

I try keep my praises in my Mission Repair blog to a minimum…but this one was worth the effort.

Last weekend Dandra took me to the Midland Railroad Hotel in Wilson, KS (POPULATION 466) for a birthday getaway.

It sits along the train tracks that parallel Interstate 70 that runs across the country.  If you ever drive from East coast to West coast (of vise versa), you probably took I70 as the shortest route.   Just 2 miles south of the Interstate in Wilson sits this historic “haunted” hotel that is sure to please.

Firstly, the building is restored beautifully.  Originally built in 1899, I would expect it to be an accurate representation of what it looked like over 100 years ago.

Secondly, the food at the in-house restaurant is nothing short of homemade and gourmet.  The meatloaf, fried chicken, prime rib, french toast, eggs Benedict and the amazing desserts are all crafted in their kitchen.  I will also add that their cocktails were mighty tasty too.

Thirdly, the room that we stayed in (room 313) was awesome.  A separate sitting room, huge bathroom and king size bed were all perfect.  Antiques and original wood accents were all in excellent condition.  The floors squeaked when you walked on them, just as you would expect!

Lastly, the staff was amazing.  We spent time with the General Manager Shelley, and the rest of her staff was extremely nice, accommodating and pleasant.  They actually made the time spent at the hotel very enjoyable and wanted us to come back.

Midland; you’ve got us.  We will do our part to help spread the word and you’ll see us back there in 2016.  Thanks for the great time!

Ryan
