Speaking of vacation…

Hello there my friends,

This is a quick personal blog – which I try to keep to a minimum – about New Orleans that I visited last week.

I can remember clearly as a kid my father traveling to New Orleans for “business” and he brought be back a t-shirt from Bourbon Street.  I wore that shirt all through my 3rd grade school year and I have a few pics of me in the shirt somewhere in the Arter archives.  Well it was finally my time to head to Louisiana and get a shirt for myself!

It was a Sunday night, so I figured that it would be quiet and the town would be dead.  I was dead wrong…that place was a total ruckus.  Bourbon Street was the most amazing “party” that I’ve ever been to!

I don’t think that it hurt that Tom Cruise was there filming one block away…we didn’t do any “star gazing” but we were redirected several times around the block as to not intervene with the next scene.  Watch for a Tom Cruise movie set in New Orleans coming soon!

Yes the scene is intense on Bourbon Street (leave the kiddos at home) and the food (yes we had beignets the next morning at Cafe Du Monde) coupled with the atmosphere was unique and fantastic; but by far the people that worked and lived in the French Quarter were spectacular.  They were all very friendly and didn’t hesitate to help.  I felt very safe walking around the city and I hope others do as well.

For a State that has had some troubles in recent history and I know that it’s still affecting a lot of people, it appears to me that New Orleans will survive, thrive and prosper in the future.  I know that I’ll be going back…the pork nachos at “Spirits” were amazing.  I’d go back just for another round of those!

Thanks for reading, I’m getting back to work.  Vacation is over.  Take care, Ryan

So I’m sitting on a cruise ship and…

Hello there cruisers!

I say “cruisers” because if you’ve ever been on a cruise ship, that’s what they call you.  A crusier.  Ok, I’m good with it.

Normally when I’m on vacation I don’t really need to talk about work.  It’s a good time to decompress, forget about the normal day-to-day worries and just relax.  When we were all sitting at the dinner table, I struck up a conversation with the newlywed couple next to us.  Finally, the question of came up “what do you do?”

“I own a small business that repairs iPhones, Smartphones, tablets and computers” I said.

So he then pulls out his Sony Xperia and says “can you fix this?!?  Brilliant!

So sitting at the table I snapped this picture and told him that I’d blog about it.  Thanks Cale, after a few days on the cruise ship spending time with you and Lauren it’s now obvious that we have made some great friends.  Next time I visit Florida, I’ll bring a back glass with me and take care of that cracked component for you.  It’ll only cost you 3 mai tais 😉

So, even in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico it’s difficult to get away from the business.  I guess that’s a good problem, right?  Well, I’m back to it and I’ll be right here knocking out some more blogs (and some amazing newsletters are in the works as well!) from the comfort of my “dry land office”.  Ugh, who wouldn’t rather be working from Cozumel?

Have a good morning.  Ryan

iPhone 6. Will it bend?

Good morning iPhone fans!

It’s not unusual that I ask my technicians to take a few pictures of phones that are severely damaged…but it is unusual that an iPhone 6 would come into us in this bad of shape!  Check out the “before pictures” below:

IMG_2768IMG_2760

Of course, this iPhone 6 needed a lot of TLC…but once we replaced the back case and the glass, the rest of the phone was still working.  This is a testament to the “ruggedness” of the rest of the phone even though we all know that the glass can break very easily.  Obviously this phone was run over or caught in a car door or something.  Normally they don’t look this bad.  Once repaired, they typically tend to look this good!

So when people ask “can you fix my iPhone?!?”, just take a look at the pictures above and judge for yourself…if it’s not as bad of the first two pictures, there’s a good chance that Mission Repair will be able to help you out.  I mean, there’s not much more someone can do to try to test our skills, right?  Thanks to my technician Casey for handling this one.

Thanks for reading, I’ll be back soon!  Ryan

Nationwide Repairs a Reality!

Hello there blog readers!

For most of you, it’s already common knowledge that we offer repair services to the entire USA, but lets review our mail-in procedures so we can all avoid a few simple unnecessary mistakes that can ruin the process for everyone.

largepackage

Sending in an iPhone?  This box is too big!

1.  You can use our “email label service” that will allow you to print out an address label on a normal sheet of printer paper from your home or office, which you can tape to the outside of your package for shipment INTO Mission Repair!  Of course you can always send your device into us using your own shipping service, but our email label service is easy!

2.  Speaking of packaging, we have a few simple rules that everyone should follow.  Do not send your device into us in an envelope!  Envelopes do not provide enough protection for sensitive electronic devices but if you do use an envelope, you should expect that additional damage will be incurred on the way into Mission Repair, or even loss of the device entirely.  If we receive an empty envelope, there’s not much we can do to help to recover your device.

Use about 2” of padding to protect your device on the way into us and use a box that will be a good size for the device plus the padding.  FedEx, UPS and USPS offer FREE BOXES to those that use the corresponding services.  Remember, if you’re deciding to have that expensive iPhone or iPad repaired, you’re going to want to treat it with respect even if it has a cracked screen.  Once we get it, we’ll take care of that!

3.  If you’re not using our “email label service”, you should insure your package for it’s replacement value.  Remember that even if you insure an iPhone for $1000 and if it’s lost or damaged in shipping, you will only receive the current market value of the device itself – apps, software or “extras” will hold no value; and only if it’s packaged correctly.  So it’s a good idea to do a simple eBay search on your device to see what a current market value would be, then insure your package for that amount.

For more tips and advice on shipping, you can view our shipping instructions on our website here that have been available for 8 years.  The bottom line is that if you follow some simple and easy instructions, your device will be moved from your location, into Mission Repair, and back to you in perfect shape.

Have a great morning, Ryan
