Hi there and good afternoon!
I’m part of our local CERT Team here in Olathe Kansas. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
So as an active volunteer, I’m required to attend a certain number of training hours per year, and I’ve also opted to attend the big “CERT Rodeo” event that’s happening on August 1st of this year.
It’s somewhat exciting and I’m happy to participate. Volunteering time certainly makes me feel good and knowing what to do in an emergency doesn’t hurt. Of course, we all hope that emergencies won’t happen, but just this week my family and I had to run to the basement due to tornadoes touching down in the area. It’s one of those events that can cause the CERT Terms to be dispatched.
So like I’ve been saying since my new years resolution on 1/1 of this year, it’s time to get back into shape. I’ve only got three weeks until the Rodeo…but I know that I can strip a few pounds off so that my pants will feel like they are supposed to 😉
You should try volunteering some time if you haven’t before; it’s rewarding to give back to the community once in a while, I wish I had time to do more.
At Mission Repair as a business we’ve done some volunteer work as well, and we’ve donated not only money but a lot of time to worthy causes. It’s what we do when we’re not fixing iPhones!
Have a great afternoon, I’ll be back with some business information soon.
Take care, Ryan
