We have been working hard on getting the Kindle 2 screen repair service down to a reasonable level and it looks like we have succeeded! Starting today, the Kindle Screen Repair Service for 6″ Kindle 2 is down a whopping $30 to only $59.00!

That’s hard to read!

The Truth About Your “Cracked iPad Screen”!

Hello M:R Nation –

The term “Cracked iPad Screen” has become a vague term over the last couple of years. With all of the revisions of the iPad and the fact that when you have a “broken screen”, that might mean 3 different things. With a new iPad being released about once every year, we have quickly accumulated many services to offer and it can be confusing. Here is a quick list of the iPads that we service:

Original iPad (Wifi & 3G)

iPad 2 (Wifi & 3G)

iPad 2 REV A (Wifi & 3G)

iPad 3 aka The New iPad (Wifi & 3G)

iPad 4 aka iPad with Retina Display (Wifi & 3G)

iPad Mini (Wifi & 3G)

Now, each of these iPad models have a separate Glass and LCD screen. Here is a quick visual or what each part looks like separately:

photo

iPad 3 Glass and LCD Screens

On the left, you will see the iPad “Glass”. This glass has a special layer that senses your touch. This is what we call a digitizer. the digitizer is adhered to the glass by a special optical adhesive. When the glass cracks, the digitizer will often continue to function which is great, until you start cutting your fingers on the broken glass, YIKES!

On the right, you will notice the LCD screen. This is what generates the picture that you interface with when you are using the iPad. It’s just like your TV, but a lot smaller! When this breaks, it will usually look as if your screen has an ink blotch on it or you will see lines through the entire length of the picture. More on this to come…

You can start to see what I mean when I say the term “Cracked iPad Screen” is a vague one.  With so many different models and the possibility of the glass, LCD or both screens being broken, you should try to become as knowledgeable as you can before taking your iPad in or sending your iPad out for repair.

Why is that? Because the best consumer is a well informed consumer. You will want to make sure that you are ordering the correct service for your iPad.  This could be the difference between a reasonable repair and an expensive one! Of course, with the right repair center, you can just send it in and they will fairly assess your situation and charge you correctly, but NOT ALL REPAIR CENTERS ARE CREATED EQUAL! We all know how you can be treated at an automotive repair shop, just know that electronic repair centers can be just a bad.

Alright, so lets identify what iPad you actually have. The best way for you to do this is by looking at the back of your iPad and locating your model number.

Ok, now that you have your iPad identified, lets decide what service you actually need. The best way to do this is to just show you. Below are examples of both a cracked glass and LCD screen:

Shatter patterns on your glass will vary and your LCD might not look exactly like this, but you can clearly tell by both images what is what.  Click on the image to get a closer view if needed.

Ok, so you now know what iPad you have, you have identified what screen is broken and now all you need to determine is where you will have it repaired. So after an in-depth interview with journalist Ben Hartman, the article went up a few days ago. It’s a perfect fit for us since we have really established Mission Repair as the place to visit in Kansas City for iPhone and iPad repairs, even among the heavy competition that keeps popping up.

Well here’s to a great afternoon here in the KC area with fantastic weather today and I’ll be back shortly with a new Mission Repair special.

Best, Ryan

Which system is better…Xbox or PS3? Well, there’s no debate on where to go for repair.

We service the Xbox 360, Xbox 360 Slim, PS3, PS3 Slim and Nintendo Wii units…and we are repairing:

  • Dirty disc errors.
  • Games crashing half way through due to reading problems.
  • Discs sometimes loading, and sometimes not being recognized.
  • OPEN TRAY Error.
  • Glitching FMV or slow loading games (some games are just slow, its normal so be patient).
  • Movies jumping and skipping.

So now you know there’s no reason to junk that old unit that’s been giving you troubles. It’s cheaper to have it repaired than buy new! Speaking of games, are you watching any football this weekend? I’m going to watch some live and in person, maybe I’ll see you out tailgating!!

On a personal note, Casey and I did a little camping last weekend!

Hi again everyone –  I have a lot of business to talk about today, but I wanted to break it up with a little personal blog so I don’t go “Smartphone” crazy 😉

Last weekend, my son and I went to Southern Missouri Off-Road Ranch in Seymour, Missouri and spent 4 days camping and 4-wheeling. Since Casey is now 16, I gave him the opportunity to get behind the wheel (which he inevitably took over for the entire first day) as I showed him the ropes on the different trails that have been established there.

Casey making his off-roading debut!

Casey making his off-roading debut!

In fact, SMORR is a 1,000 acre park with excellent amenities, trails and even a cafe if you want fresh and hot biscuits and gravy in the morning if you’re too tired to cook for yourself! Casey and I disciplined ourselves to eat what we brought – oatmeal. MMMMMMMMMM yum 🙂

There are many levels of trails, and we were able to tackle some of the most difficult ones in our Land Cruiser, and had a ton of fun doing it. I took over some of the more technical parts of the trail, like this short video shows…I mean I really did want to keep most of the paint on our truck!

Casey was my cameraman in this video and he did the narrating. My buddy Marty was the spotter and together we made several runs each day with success! I wish I had more videos…but the memories with my son are still there.

OK well, that’s enough “fun” for one day. I’m back at it and you’ll see some more interesting posts for my crew at Mission Repair today.

Take care, Ryan
