There’s a “football” feeling in the air…and on the air!

Hi everyone, it’s been a record breaking month at Mission Repair and I’ve still got a lot of work to do today; and I’m even leaving at 4:30 to see a Pro Football Preseason Game this afternoon so I’ll make this quick!

There’s a lot of talk about Football right now- everyone is drafting their fantasy teams, the major NFL cuts are happening soon and season ticket holders are polishing their tailgating equipment – all just in time for the first “real” games the first week of September!

What does this time of year bring for Mission Repair? Well we’ve got an extensive advertising campaign running on our local football team, the Kansas City Chiefs, pregame show. We’re going to be on the radio and on the television advertising to millions of viewers weekly very soon. Here’s a shot of me “trying” to read my next radio ad:

It can be tough to belt out the entire script in one take- so they guys at 102.5 FM just work their magic until I sound great. Trust me, these weren’t recorded in one take- I was in this booth for an hour yesterday just trying to get it right. It didn’t help that I had Troy, my General Manager right next to me snickering each time I said “Ryan Arter here, owner at Mission Repair, and when the KC Chiefs score, you score!” He just got a kick out of that.

I’m just talking about the some of the “behind the scenes” activity that goes around here at Mission Repair. No one told me that owning a business would be so much work…but days like this make it really rewarding in any case.

So speaking of “When Kansas City scores, you score”, I’m promoting an offer on the radio each week that provides deep discounts when the Chiefs score. The more they score, the more my customers will save. So for those of you that are outside of the Kansas City and outside of the Kansas City Radio Network, I’ll post the same offer here on the blog for you to enjoy when it runs…which is not today! You’ll have to wait until the official NFL season start, and I hope to see you at one of the games!

For those of you that know me, you know that I’m a Chiefs fan but there’s another team closer to my heart. Care to take a guess?

Have a great day, Ryan

Local Treasures!

Hello M:R Nation –

During my time off last week, I made it a point to support as many local businesses as I could. But, what it actually turned into was just a gluttonous shopping spree. I packed up the kids and headed off on an adventure (as my son would say). I had a very specific plan in place of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. First stop in the morning is always coffee. So I headed to The Roasterie to pick up some of my favorite beans!

Excellent coffee!

Excellent coffee!

By the time we were done picking up said beans, we started to get a little hungry. What better way to celebrate our local adventure than stopping at the best BBQ restaurant in the world, Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ! Here I shared a special teaching point with my children, “Always order the Z-Man”!

Can't beat this!

Can’t beat this!

After Lunch, we headed to the store to pick up some much needed supplies. The typical diapers, wipes, goldfish, toys and of course, milk. Milk is a necessity of life and everyone uses it for something. We blandly open our grocers cooler and reach for a red, blue or pink cap. It has become all too boring if you ask me. This is why I made sure to go out of my way to locate some of the nations best produce milk and it just so happens to be produced in the KC area. Say hello to Shatto Milk!

On this trip, I grabbed coffee, strawberry and chocolate milk!

Once we had our tummies full of delicious milk, it was time for a much needed nap! After this quick nap, were off to our local farmers market to obtain some tasty beef jerky… I mean fresh produce 🙂 This was a great time, but remember, its always a good idea to bring cash to a farmers market! I learned that the hard way…

Tomato time!

Tomato time!

With our day coming to an end, we packed it up and headed back home. We had a great time and I think I started to teach my children a great philosophy of supporting local businesses. Local/small business is what keeps this great country running and one day, there is a great chance that they will either own or work for a small business.

Mission Repair is a local business. Granted, we do a lot of our business on a national and even international level, but we were born and raised right here in Kansas City. We have opened our doors for our community to experience the same great service we offer to everyone nationwide! Because of that, we have even extended our hours and decided to stay open 7 days a week. Yes, what was meant to be a nationwide mail-in repair center, has naturally turned into a mecca for all things broken in the Kansas city area. Come visit us soon!

p.s. When the kids went to bed, I made sure to enjoy this beautiful night cap:

It only takes one to hit the spot!

Working From Home…

Hello M:R Nation –

Its Thursday and I’m hanging out at home for the rest of the week while my other half enjoys a nice retreat to Boston… I have been given the name Mr. Mom for a few days and I couldn’t be happier to carry that title :-)! So before my daughter wakes up and my son finishes his episode of Power Rangers, lets get this post rocking!

While I am out of the office, I still very much keep a tab on things and check all of my emails. Its just something I can’t control. So lets have some fun with it. For the next 2 days, Today and Friday, I will run a special 16% coupon code! The only catch is you have to email me to get that code. It will only last until tomorrow at midnight, so to all of you Retailmenot fans out there, this one will have a low success rate.

Power Rangers ROAR!

Happy National Lemonade Day!

Hello M:R Nation

Today is a great day around the nation. It is National Lemonade Day! I have decided to actually celebrate it his year and treat our whole team to…you guessed it…LEMONADE! Now, I didn’t want to serve just any lemonade. It had to be the perfect lemonade, as it is National Lemonade Day. I headed to our local supermarket and started my search. Come join me down memory lane:

On my first stop, I came across this monstrosity:

No Thanks!

No Thanks! Nothing about this made me think “Refreshing”

Then I came across this:

Nice try Best Choice, sams product, same crappy Lemonade.

Nice try Best Choice, different package, same crappy Lemonade.

There is where I almost give up:

There is no way I can serve this powder to my technicians.

There is no way I can serve this powder to my technicians.

Finally, I came across something promising:

Now, I can at least serve this to people.

Now…I can at least serve this to people.

Satisfied with my lemonade choice, I head to the checkout counter. On my way to said counter, I spot these out of the corner of my eye:

Hmmm... this could be interesting. Lemonade, made from real lemons?

Hmmm… this could be interesting. Lemonade, made from real lemons?

So I make the decision to make my own lemonade on the spot. GULP… this is a first for ma and I am not going to be able to do it in the comfort of my own kitchen.

I head into the office and get started in the Mission Repair kitchen:

1 Cup Sugar, 1 Cup water on low heat until sugar dissolves.

Meanwhile:

Roll the lemons to help release the juice.

Squeeze and discard lemons.

You will need to squeeze until you get 1 cup of juice.

By this time, my sugar has devolved:

Simple Syrup!

Simple Syrup!

Add the lemon juice, syrup and 4 cups of water, chill and enjoy!

This is honestly the best lemonade I have ever tasted!

Everyone enjoyed the store bought lemonade and my Mission Repair brew was a hit!  We love to do things like this around the office and I encourage other small business to do the same. Take some time, have some fun and give your employees some lemonade! Now, BACK TO WORK!

Cheers, Troy
