There’s a “football” feeling in the air…and on the air!

Hi everyone, it’s been a record breaking month at Mission Repair and I’ve still got a lot of work to do today; and I’m even leaving at 4:30 to see a Pro Football Preseason Game this afternoon so I’ll make this quick!

There’s a lot of talk about Football right now- everyone is drafting their fantasy teams, the major NFL cuts are happening soon and season ticket holders are polishing their tailgating equipment – all just in time for the first “real” games the first week of September!

What does this time of year bring for Mission Repair? Well we’ve got an extensive advertising campaign running on our local football team, the Kansas City Chiefs, pregame show. We’re going to be on the radio and on the television advertising to millions of viewers weekly very soon. Here’s a shot of me “trying” to read my next radio ad:

photo

It can be tough to belt out the entire script in one take- so they guys at 102.5 FM just work their magic until I sound great. Trust me, these weren’t recorded in one take- I was in this booth for an hour yesterday just trying to get it right. It didn’t help that I had Troy, my General Manager right next to me snickering each time I said “Ryan Arter here, owner at Mission Repair, and when the KC Chiefs score, you score!” He just got a kick out of that.

I’m just talking about the some of the “behind the scenes” activity that goes around here at Mission Repair. No one told me that owning a business would be so much work…but days like this make it really rewarding in any case.

So speaking of “When Kansas City scores, you score”, I’m promoting an offer on the radio each week that provides deep discounts when the Chiefs score. The more they score, the more my customers will save. So for those of you that are outside of the Kansas City and outside of the Kansas City Radio Network, I’ll post the same offer here on the blog for you to enjoy when it runs…which is not today! You’ll have to wait until the official NFL season start, and I hope to see you at one of the games!

For those of you that know me, you know that I’m a Chiefs fan but there’s another team closer to my heart. Care to take a guess?

Have a great day, Ryan

Local Treasures!

Hello M:R Nation –

During my time off last week, I made it a point to support as many local businesses as I could. But, what it actually turned into was just a gluttonous shopping spree. I packed up the kids and headed off on an adventure (as my son would say). I had a very specific plan in place of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. First stop in the morning is always coffee. So I headed to The Roasterie to pick up some of my favorite beans!

Excellent coffee!

Excellent coffee!

By the time we were done picking up said beans, we started to get a little hungry. What better way to celebrate our local adventure than stopping at the best BBQ restaurant in the world, Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ! Here I shared a special teaching point with my children, “Always order the Z-Man”!

Can't beat this!

Can’t beat this!

After Lunch, we headed to the store to pick up some much needed supplies. The typical diapers, wipes, goldfish, toys and of course, milk. Milk is a necessity of life and everyone uses it for something. We blandly open our grocers cooler and reach for a red, blue or pink cap. It has become all too boring if you ask me. This is why I made sure to go out of my way to locate some of the nations best produce milk and it just so happens to be produced in the KC area. Say hello to Shatto Milk!

On this trip, I grabbed coffee, strawberry and chocolate milk!

On this trip, I grabbed coffee, strawberry and chocolate milk!

Once we had our tummies full of delicious milk, it was time for a much needed nap! After this quick nap, were off to our local farmers market to obtain some tasty beef jerky… I mean fresh produce ūüôā This was a great time, but remember, its always a good idea to bring cash to a farmers market! I learned that the hard way…

Tomato time!

Tomato time!

With our day coming to an end, we packed it up and headed back home. We had a great time and I think I started to teach my children a great philosophy of supporting local businesses. Local/small business is what keeps this great country running and one day, there is a great chance that they will either own or work for a small business.

Mission Repair is a local business. Granted, we do a lot of our business on a national and even international level, but we were born and raised right here in Kansas City. We have opened our doors for our community to experience the same great service we offer to everyone nationwide! Because of that, we have even extended our hours and decided to stay open 7 days a week. Yes, what was meant to be a nationwide mail-in repair center, has naturally turned into a mecca for all things broken in the Kansas city area. Come visit us soon!

p.s. When the kids went to bed, I made sure to enjoy this beautiful night cap:

It only takes one to hit the spot!

Hello M:R Nation –

Its Thursday and I’m hanging out at home for the rest of the week while my other half enjoys a nice retreat to Boston… I have been given the name Mr. Mom for a few days and I couldn’t be happier to carry that title :-)! So before my daughter wakes up and my son finishes his episode of Power Rangers, lets get this post rocking!

Happy National Lemonade Day!

Hello M:R Nation

Today is a great day around the nation. It is National Lemonade Day! I have decided to actually celebrate it his year and treat our whole team to…you guessed it…LEMONADE! Now, I didn’t want to serve just any lemonade. It had to be the perfect lemonade, as it is National Lemonade Day. I headed to our local supermarket and started my search. Come join me down memory lane:

On my first stop, I came across this monstrosity:

No Thanks!

No Thanks! Nothing about this made me think “Refreshing”¬†

Then I came across this:

Nice try Best Choice, sams product, same crappy Lemonade.

Nice try Best Choice, different package, same crappy Lemonade.

There is where I almost give up:

There is no way I can serve this powder to my technicians.

There is no way I can serve this powder to my technicians.

Finally, I came across something promising:

Now, I can at least serve this to people.

Now…I can at least serve this to people.

Satisfied with my lemonade choice, I head to the checkout counter. On my way to said counter, I spot these out of the corner of my eye:

Hmmm... this could be interesting. Lemonade, made from real lemons?

Hmmm… this could be interesting. Lemonade, made from real lemons?

So I make the decision to make my own lemonade on the spot. GULP… this is a first for ma and I am not going to be able to do it in the comfort of my own kitchen.

I head into the office and get started in the Mission Repair kitchen:

1 Cup Sugar, 1 Cup water on low heat until sugar dissolves.

1 Cup Sugar, 1 Cup water on low heat until sugar dissolves.

Meanwhile:

Roll the lemons to help release the juice.

Squeeze and discard lemons.

You will need to squeeze until you get 1 cup of juice.

You will need to squeeze until you get 1 cup of juice.

By this time, my sugar has devolved:

Simple Syrup!

Simple Syrup!

Add the lemon juice, syrup and 4 cups of water, chill and enjoy!

This is honestly the best lemonade I have ever tasted!

This is honestly the best lemonade I have ever tasted!

Everyone enjoyed the store bought lemonade and my Mission Repair brew was a hit!  We love to do things like this around the office and I encourage other small business to do the same. Take some time, have some fun and give your employees some lemonade! Now, BACK TO WORK!

Cheers, Troy

Case Of The Mondays (Mission Repair Accessory Review)!

Hello M:R Nation –

It is Monday and that can only mean one thing…accessory reviews! Ok, so we have actually never done an accessory review on a Monday, but from here on out, you can expect them like clock work!

Today, we are taking a look at the Spigen SGP iPhone 5 Case Ultra Thin Air in the metal  slate color. Let me start by saying I use personally use this case, but in black. It is a new addition since receiving my iPhone 5 back from Apple and I gotta tell you, I really like it.

For the longest time, I have been a self proclaimed “Purest”. I have gone case-less and if you would take one look my iPhone (pre-replacement) you could tell. I had many scratched, nicks and gouges in the back case and plenty of marks on the screen. Once I received my replacement iPhone, I couldn’t put it through that hell again. It just looks too nice.

The¬†Spigen SGP iPhone 5 Case Ultra Thin Air¬†gives me “the purest” exactly what I need. It is paper thin, feels great in my hand and even replicates the chamfered edge that I love so much. It comes with a screen protector, shammy and 3 “jelly bean” home button protectors.¬†The one downside to this case is something I actually caused. I took the phone out of the case so many times, I actually stretched it slightly, so the phone wiggles around a bit. Other than that, this case is perfect for me.

Of course, everyone is not looking for the same qualities that I am when it comes to a case, so let me outline what you are getting:

  • light weight
  • thin
  • simular texture¬†
  • chamfered edge
  • slate color
  • limited protection

This case is available right here: Spigen SGP iPhone 5 Case Ultra Thin Air and if you are looking for any other accessories for your iPhone, iPad, smartphone or tablet, http://www.missionrepair.com is the place to be!

My iPhone 5 Is No Longer Broken…And No Longer Mine!

Hello M:R Nation –

Earlier last week I wrote about my broken iPhone 5 and the dismal state it was in. Luckily, my iPhone 5 was still warranty and I was able to request service from Apple for the issues. I had mentioned in that post that I would talk about my experience and so here I go.

After receiving the box from Apple, I was faced with quite a conundrum… what am I going to use for a phone while I am waiting? Well, I ignored the question until about 4:45pm, because at 5:00pm Fedex would be knocking on the door to pick up all of our daily packages. I was in a panic and did what any respectable man would do in this situation… beg his boss to borrow his old iPhone 3GS for a few days.

Picture Perfect!

Picture Perfect!

With the 3GS in hand, I wrapped up my iPhone 5, packaged it in the provided box and sent it away. All was well, but I had to get creative with my sim card situation. I had a nano sim card. This would not fit in the large sim slot of the iPhone 3GS. I had to take a large sim card, trace the nano sim pattern onto it and cut that section out. From there, I fit in the nano sim and SUCCESS! I was back in the game of digital life.

I have to tell you, I understand that the iPhone 3GS in not that old, but going back to it really made me miss my iPhone 5. It has made me think twice before complaining about the battery life…which I do on a daily basis.

So I pained though the slow processing power and horrible resolution of the iPhone 3GS ( which is only that way because I am used to the 5) for about two days until a package was delivered to me from Apple. What I received was no shock. Apple had completely replaced my phone. It was scratch-less, glowing and beautiful, but just not MY phone. Being in the business that I’m in, I have come to learn that there is a certain sentimental value that personal devices brings and I just experienced it first hand. I remember every drop, every scratch and every picture taken with that phone and I kind of miss it.

Overall, I am happy with my in warranty service experience. It was kind of hard to get it started, but once I was able to order the box, it went off without a hitch. As you can see in the above photo, the iPhone 5 takes perfect pictures and life is good once again! If I ever have an in warranty issue, Apple is the place to take it. If its out of warranty Mission Repair is the only choice :-)!

P.S. The battery life is still horrible on this replacement.

Cheers, Troy
